Anyone done this yet? I tried to get the body shop to do it while they were painting the other 3/4's of my car (glad I didn't, they would have gotten dirt specs on that too )
Anyway, they told me that GM says NOT to paint the cover, because of the surface the paint will not adhere correctly, and is subject to premature peeling, bubbleing, etc. I've seen the carbon fiber covers (hate to spend the $$ on CF and paint over it). Aside from just wanting to "black out" the entire back end - the painter from the FIRST time the rear was painted (car was delivered with scratches from shipping) got compound on it, and it's impossible to get this crap off.
I have seen on this forum one example of this. Silver coupe with torch red lower rear section and details. It really wasn't as outrageous as it sounds, but it's not for me. I'm sure that a search would dig it up.
Darn, I wish I had not seen those photos. I like the look a lot. I don't think my wife will go for another mod (unless it's really inexpensive - which I doubt in this case).
My friend is doing them at his body shop on Long Island. here is a pic of Mikes (PrecisionC6) Car
Heres one in DSOM
Do you know if how your friend is prepping these before painting? I would think a couple of coats of primer, with a wet sand in between would do the trick...
Frikkin pu$$ies at the stealership body shop didn't even want to discuss it. I think a gloss black, on a triple black C6 with nice shiny GHL's sticking out the back would be bada$$.
Ask your buddy how much, what type of warranty he gives against peeling, and how fast he could turn around a fedex'd part ( if I can find a box big enuf to ship in).
