Default Been There, Seen That

I drove my 1 week old C6 from TN to Luke AFB, AZ and then over to NM a couple of months later and the "phantom turn" phenomenon occured many times. I doubt it's a GPS thing; it seems to be more of a data base issue. As you examine the calculated route, you'll see several "dots" along even the straighest section, and you'll get the aural "Continue on I-40 West", to which you invariably answer "No $h1t", as a turn would spell true disaster. The system would try several times to turn me when no turn was required.

I guess there's still no substitute for a little road knowledge and looking outside the window every now and then...

Well in regards to the comment about the system always telling you to continue on the same route, you just need to change the map display method. I finally figured that one out on the same trip. Wanted to see what all the different icons were. Normally it shows you a map of where you are with some instructions in a window to the right. If it shows you the next three intersections or interstate exits you are in the mode where she likes to talk an awful lot. At every intersection the lady thinks you might mistakenly turn off the road so she tells you to continue straight and tells you what road you are supposed to stay on.

But you can change it where instead on the right it only displays the next three turns you must make, or you can change it to show only the next turn you must make. In these two modes the lady is 100% quiet until you get 1/2 to 1 mile from the intersection.

Since the manual does not seem to give graphic images to the names I am not positive of which is which, but I believe you want to be in "Next Turn" mode or "Guidance" mode.

But as I recall, the next time you put in a new destination it goes back to the annoying deal. So you need to change it again the next time you drive or perhaps if we are lucky and reset our Driver 1 or Driver 2 settings while the navigation is in Next Turn mode, perhaps it will remember the preference for that guidance display mode (but I doubt it). I saw no setting to select this guidance mode as the default guidance mode.

Of course you could just mute here in the volume settings as well.

On the right turn deal after the detour where it said I needed to go 4 miles or so ahead and then make a right turn even though the turn was 1/2 block ahead, within 1/2 block of making the correct turn it told me to continue on the correct road so I think she knew where I was. She recognized I was now on the correct road and my location on the map was totally in the exact spot where I was on the map. If I had no GPS and she was off by 4 miles I would think the map would not show me in the correct spot (IE I would be 4 miles before the intersection when looking at the map).

On the deal with the turning left in the cornfield, the map showed a 100% straight road with two dots in it. At both dots she said to turn left, but the line on the map indicated I was to go straight (IE the map did not show a left turn was possible.) So this road was not a new road or anything, and was correctly displayed on the map. Just for some wierd reason it wanted me to turn left.

Has anyone named their navigation lady? Club members tell me I have to come up with name for her! I bet some of you have a name for your little navigation lady.

I just call her "Hon" - just like the SO. She also has earned the affectionate "bitch" every so often
