Creaking Console; found the problem
While installing my new B&M shifter, I decided to inspect the center console unit while I had it off. I always figured it was creaking just from flexing since it is plastic. But after taking it off, I flexed it and could not reproduce any creaking. I also flexed the little tabs that hold it in place, and they did not creak either.
So, I half-installed the console, and noticed that there was creaking sounds coming from the tabs. Apparently when it is installed, the tabs rub up inside their holes and creak. The tabs I am talking about are the ones that have metal clips attached to them (there are 4 of them total, 2 on each side).
However, upon further inspection, I found a second source of creaking. I pressed on the mounts of the radio, and they creaked as well. The creaking was coming from the area around the mounting bolts. The radio is attached to the car with bolts, which hold together plastic against plastic.
I went ahead and greased the center console tabs, as well as the radio mounting bolts. Reinstalled everything, did some driving on bumpy roads: no creaking anymore
If anyone has some pictures of the center console torn up I could highlight the problem areas. Hopes this helps the battle against creaking,
Joe
I always thought I caused the creaking due to my leg pushing against the console. I tore down everything - an all day job, sorry I didn't think of pics.
I found the same here . . .EXACTLY!
I used DuPont Multi-use lubricant everywhere its sets up dry and it's not oily or greasy. Formulated to work with all plastics and metals (It's what Boeing uses).

My console creaks like hell is is a great source of embarrassment when a friend lays his left knee over on the console -- of if I do.
