Dealer had 06 vert allocation for me but could not process order due to Z51 contraint. Any idea when some of these constrains will be lifted especially at start of model year? Order was kicked back by GM per this large dealer.
The Z51 constraint puts a limit on the number of Z51 orders that will be accepted during a particular week; it doesn't pre-empt them completely. Unfortunately, more Z51s were requested than were accepted and yours didn't make it.
Historically, we've seen that the situation changes every week. Some weeks there are no constraints. (Any allocated Corvette can be ordered with Z51.) Other weeks they may be limited. What you need to know is that for the purposes of allocations and constraints, every Thursday is the start of a new week; that's when "the meter gets reset".
Unfortunately for you, your dealer's present allocation won't help you if it's not used to order your car by this coming Tuesday. It's not as though he can just "hang on to it" and wait for a Z51 slot to open up. Either he uses it by Tuesday or he loses it. The process starts all over again on Thursday; at that time you need your dealer to get an allocation that includes Z51 and anything else that you ordered. Also, come Thursday it's entirely possible that Z51 will be off constraint; it's just as possible that it will be on even tighter constraint. No one knows for sure.
I think you can count on the Z51 being on limited constraint for most of the year. CAFE regulations being what they are and with the Z51 sku-ing those regs, I can see this not be 100% available.
Is the Z51 a must have for you? If so you can either wait it out or go to a dealer with more allocation.
