Default A6 with Z51?

Hey guys, first post here, but not my first Corvette. I have owned a '77, '01 Coupe, and '04 Z06. The Z06 is in the process of being bought back by GM and I am interested in a 2006 Coupe with the A6 transmission. My question is regarding the Z51 package. What all will it include with this transmission? I understand it gives you a performance axle ratio in the other two transmissions. Will it do the same with the A6?

Also, any word on when the chrome wheels option will be available from Chevrolet?

It does not appear that there will be a performance axle ratio for the automatic Z51 in 2006.

The chrome wheel option is scheduled for release in December. Price $1,995

No, no performance axle ratio option available in 2006 on the Z51 or otherwise. On the 2005s Z51 gave you the 3.15 performance axle (in place of the 2.73s) on the automatics and it gave you different transmission gearing on the manuals as well as oil coolers all around on all Z51 models (that specifically should still be the case in 2006).

Interesting. Why did they do away with the performance axle ratios?

Probably because with 6 speeds they can now give you a lower 1st gear, and a higher 6th gear. Best of both worlds. Acceleration and fuel economy.

The 06 models have only two tranny options, the 6 speed manual as standard equipment and the 6 speed auto as a $1250 option.

Default Isn't it a 2.56 gear ratio on the A-6?

Yes,
2.56 on A6
3.42 on Manual 6 spd (base, Z51 and Z06)

What are the differences between the individual gear ratios between the standard six speed manual in the Z51 and an A6? Are the first few gears in the A6 numerically higher (steeper gears) than in the M6, but the overdrive ratios bring the final drive ratio to a numerically lower number? I think people are seeing the 2.56 final drive ratio and assuming the car is going to be very long legged. I am under the impression the A6 will actually accelerate harder than the others due to steeper initial gearing. Is this correct?
