Default NAV Commands

A while back ago someone posted a quick reference list of commonly used voice commands for the NAV. I thought I copied (can't find it now) but can't find it anywhere (to include the FAQ list). Well, my European NAV disc has finally arrived today and would like to get to using it with a quick list of commands. Can anyone help me find it or post it in this link? Thanks.

Regarding this voice command on a C6 nav system:

Voice Guidance Off: This command will cause the system to turn off the navigation voice prompts if a destination has been set.

Has anyone used this voice command and if so, does it work properly?

Someone approached me today in another C6 with this problem to see if I could reproduce it. When saying "voice guidance on", it responds back with "voice guidance off" or sometimes it responds "you are not under guidance" or "map heading up", seems random which response I get back. I also entered a destination but it didn't seem to make a difference (just set it, I wasn't actually driving the route, not sure if that would make a difference). I'm also trying to be careful pronouncing the words clearly. all other voice commands (including "voice guidance off") that I've tried seem to get recognized properly by the nav computer.

Just curious if this is a known issue or if we're both just doing something wrong.

Mine usually responds "Now showing Ice Cream Parlor Icons". Actually, I sort of enjoy the nav game; say something and see what the nav thinks I said. It seems to be especially shaky on the longer commands; I can usually get the short ones like "POI off" to work.

Many voice-activated toys do nothing if the input isn't understood. The C6 nav seems to do something, even if it's wrong. Perhaps this is because it has a large vocabulary, perhaps it's just a different attitude on the part of the programmers.

Voice recognition is not state of the art with this unit. It should be a whole lot better.

Might be worth a try, especially if this thing has a naughty mode. I have a stuffed Stitch that not only has voice recognition but two modes: naughty and nice. The replies differ depending on the mode, for example "Are you hungry" will get "Yes, coconut cake and coffee please" in nice mode and "No, I ate your dinner" in naughty mode.

I heard somewhere that you can just say, "I'm hungry" and it shows the closest resturants -- is that true?

We have an '05 Honda minivan and its Nav allows you to speak an address, city, street, and number separately, and it does a very nice job of decoding it. It has some drawbacks for which the c6 is better, but for voice recognition, the Honda is light years ahead.

Sure would be nice if after the fact someone could improve just the software and a better version could be flashed into the '05.

Yes...this work very well for me. What's really cool is that the restaurant icons show the type cuisine. Golden Arches, Taco Bell and National flags for Italian, Mexican food etc. Go home also works great when I'm in an unfamiliar area.

What I have a lot of trouble with mistakenly getting a bunch of POIs pop up and then can't figure out the voice command while moving to delete them. A post above said "POI off." Is that it? I've tried everything I can think to say except that. Guess I should pull the manual!

"POI Off" is it. Guessing, bad; Manual, good. But I can't talk. My wife is always reading the manuals while I'm just jabbing at the controls.

"I'm hungry" and these type of commands is the type of command list I was looking for when I originally posted this.

Someone a few months ago had created a cool little cheat sheet to print out and said they had it laminated into a little card for the car.

I was looking to copy it and do the same.

If anyone has it, it'd be nice if they could post it again. Thanks.

I don't have NAV, don't want NAV, etc, but it does seem to me that it ought to have, as a very basic 'must-have' the following capability:

A 'learn' mode, where you speak to it, and you then are able to hand -navigate to equivalent menu item and tell it to associate that wordd to the nested menu function -- sort of a macro... and ALSO the ability to 'teach' it your unique pronounciation (i.e. for alphabet, numerals, and common words) in order to have in understand you, and not have you change to fit the car!

Here's what I miss most about the nav system in my Acura TL:

Me (after hitting the voice command button): Find nearest gas station.
Nav: Now finding gas station...
<A list of the closest stations pops up, including names, addresses, and telephone numbers; I select one. The nav then calculates a route to the new destination.>

This works for any POI, so if your wife is driving alone late at night and some road rager is harrassing her, she can say:

Wife: Find nearest police station

And be automatically routed to it and be able to call it using the Bluetooth hands-free link to report the harrasser and have a cop waiting out in the parking lot with his handcuffs at the ready.

AFAICT, there is no equivalent to this facility in the C6 nav.

However, I'm still glad I have it.

Thanks all. I was looking for whether or not anyone has seen this specific voice command work at all or if this is the same symptom/problem for all c6 owners.
