Default First Corvette

I'm new to this board and have learned alot but I need some advice on the purchase of my first Corvette. I am looking into ordering a new C6 coupe built to my likeing. I am planning on either selling my current vehicle(2001 Camaro Z28) or trading it in. I live in Orlando,Florida and most of the dealership near me haven't got a clue or just seem unintrested in helping me out. The local dealerships here offered me $11,000 for my car but I expected to get alittle more than that. I have it in Auto Trader now $18,000 but I know to expect less. I wouldn't mind dealing with an out of state dealership but was wondering what experiences people had. Even if I couldn't get more for my car but could negotiate some on the new car price I would be happy.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance..

usually, dealers "mark down" the traded vehicles anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 off of retail. It all depends on alot of factors. You have one hell of a nice looking camaro there and probably your best bet is to sell privately, unless you can live with their offer-and remember, their offer iIS NEGOTIABLE. Argue for more money and try to cite good reasons,
like how rare the car is becoming because no more being built until who knows when, the money put into the car for quality mods, etc.

1) Learn about Corvette allocations - not all Chevrolet dealers are alike.

2) Do not pay over MSRP - look at Kerbeck, Maxie Price or any other supporting Forum dealer.

3) I don't know the value of your car, but it looks pretty nice, I suspect you will get noticably more from a private party if you take the time to find someone that wants a cosmetically modded Camaro - EBay or??

4) There are still brand new 2005 C6s sitting on dealer floors - take the time to do a GM search, you MIGHT find exactly what you seek - it's worth a little time invested. This will only help with the "Uh Oh, sold the camaro in 2 days and can't get the Vette for 6 weeks" possibility.

I mention this because it sounds like the Camaro is your only vehicle at the moment.

I sold my "trade-in" privately by advertising on Craigs List; an internet marketplace. There is one for Orlando: http://orlando.craigslist.org/ . Check it out. It's free and I got a lot of inqueries for my car. If you've got a product that's attractive to the under 30 crowd chances are they are all trolling craigslist.

Thanks for the advice. I have a company vehicle to use so I may try to sell my car first and get what I can for it. If it takes to long I may just trade it in. The price of Camaro's has seemed to decline since word of the next generation being unveiled in Jan 06. I'm taking the car to CarMax today to see what they offer. A friend of mine used them and they bought it from him for a good price.

Thanks again for the help

Flals, a little off topic here but....are you saying that the F/Pony cars--Camara and Firebird--are coming back already? I had not seen this but it makes sense given the incredible sales of Mustangs.

Here is a article about the debut in Jan. I have heard through friends of Scott Settlemire (GM) that it is rumored to have a Corvette powerplant and that it will NOT be a retro bodystyle. The actual production date isn't supposed to be til 2009-2010. If they wait til then to build it they can use the Camaro nameplate again. As of right now that can not due to the contract that they had with the Canadian's. From what I have heard the car is sitting in a warehouse now awaiting debut.

Just a small suggestion in the selling of your Camaro, you may want to title it as a Z28 (or pseudo SS) model and not just 'Camaro' somewhere in there, it might help traffic a bit.
Also stress the SS body upgrades and take that "sunroof" part out of there, it has T-tops LOL.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your car is WAY overpriced in your ad. I crunched a few numbers at kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) and even in excellent condition your car comes in at $13,970 for a private party sale. In good condition it comes in at $13,100. Trade-in value is $11,100. By pricing it where you did, all you accomplished was effectively taking your car out of the market. Don't count on the mods helping you out, either. In most cases, mods like those on your car bring the price down, not up.

BTW, my experience has been that actual prices are a bit less than the published ones. If you end up selling your car privately for more than $13,000, consider yourself very fortunate.

Thanks for the information. I never thought of it that way. I may just return as much as I can to stock and just trade it in then.
Thanks for the help.

Not a bad idea...the hood, spoiler and wheels alone will bring in some nice money selling them separately and the dealer doesn't car either way that it's the stock stuff on there or not, stock might even be preferred by them.

Thanks flals. Having owned 3 Z28's and 1 T/A, I can only wonder what GM will be producing, if of course it is still in business.
