I installed a Mid America CAGS eliminator at 300 miles on my C6 and I have not experienced any problems until reaching 3500 miles. The check engine light came on last week so I trudged down to the dealer to have that checked as well as the A/C problem that has been a real pain in the summer heat. The dealer said that the computer was displaying a CAGS system fault code and that it would clear when the tech disconnected the CAGS eliminator only to re-appear when he plugged it back in. So, we pulled it out of the car and all was back to normal. On the A/C side, they exhausted the refrigerant and recharged the system back to 1.1 lbs so we'll see how that works out.
I called Mid America to inquire about the CAGS device and the very nice lady (customer service rep) said she was not aware of any issues with their eliminator causing check engine lights to illuminate. Without me even asking, she offered to credit my account and politely refused my offer to return the CAGS device for their inspection. All in all she showed me a missing commodity: great customer service. Kudos to Mid America for the way they handled this. I will definitely look to them in the future for other C6 items.
Now, for the $64 thousand question: Can anyone here on the CF recommend a different brand of CAGS eliminator that has exhibited a longer life than decribed above? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
2.2K Ohm 1/2 Watt resistor from Radio Shack. Bend into a U shape and stick into the female terminals of the connector. Leave disconnected. Tape it up, zip tie it to the trans tab.
4 for .99 at Radio Shack.
I've used them on everything with an MN6 and never a problem.
Take an Ohm meter to your CAGS eliminator, I'll bet it shows open.

Good advice, if the CAGS eliminator has indeed failed for some reason that would cause the issue you had. If you can have it checked and let us know.
I got mine from Zip Products right here in this forum store. No problems so far (over 2300 miles). My 1-4 shift light still comes on, but I can go directly into 2nd. Good luck.
same here... zip products. 3000+ miles and no problems.
I would guess that the resistor was faulty.

Exactly correct. CAGS eliminator is not needed. The resistor is all you need. Also tape the transmission portion of the connector.
Like the other poster said ... the resistor is probably open in the one you bought.
The benefit of buying one of the "commercial" skip shift eliminators from any of the Forum suppliers is that it comes with a nice dummy connector for the solenoid socket on the tranny which will prevent contamination a lot better than tape.....and for $20 it's not a big investment.

My Radio Shack 20 cent resistor is 9000 miles old and still working well!!
(sorry you can't just buy one, comes in a 5 pack for $1.00)
