Hi All! Two weeks ago I put in my order for my 2006 Coupe, Silver/Titanium, 3LT, Z51, Auto w/Paddle Shifters, Polished Aluminum Wheels. I do not know anything at this point about my status code or my TPW. Marvin will be adding me to his list. I spoke with my dealer and I think (from this forum, thank-you) that I know more than he does. He did tell me there was a constraint on the polished aluminum wheels but he did not give me a status or TPW. Per Ken's newsletter the Z51 is also on constraint. Two questions, first, what exactly does it mean to be on constraint and what causes it (sorry if this is a dumb question). Does it mean that no cars with these options are being made at this time? I noticed that one of the forum dealers has 10 allocations with the polished wheels and can have them made next week. Secondly, if you order has items that are on constraint, will you still have a status code and a TPW? I apologize if these are dumb questions, I am trying to read as many posts as possible to learn. You guys are great and I really appreciate all of the help you have given me. Thanks, Joy.
There are constraints on those options but they are available most weeks. Once the order has been pulled, (accepted by GM) future constraints will not affect the build.
Constraints can be CAFE requirements, supplier problems or GM not ordering enough of an option to fill demand.
You always have a status code from day one of your order. It moves up from there. TPW's come after your order is pulled.
The most important thing with your order is knowing if the dealer has allocation. No allocation, no car can be built. Ask your dealer what his allocation is and how many have orders ahead of yours.
Thanks Frank, I appreciate that info. My dealer tells me he has the allocation and that I am his first 2006 allocation so I guess I am good to go. I really did not think he was a big Corvette dealership, but when I went to order my car he did have 7 or 8 2005's in the showroom. I can't wait to get on Marvin's list to see where I stand! This waiting could drive a person crazy Thanks Again!

To boost their inventory, some dealers will buy Vette's from other dealers. So the number of them in stock might not be a good indicator. Point blank ask him what their allocation is. If he beats around the bush or won't tell you, run away.
Unfortunately, no. It only means that your order has been entered into a computer. The clock doesn't begin to tick until your order status reaches 2000. (That means that it's been "picked up" by G.M.) Until then, your order is sitting in a pool, doing nothing, waiting to be picked up. It can sit there indefinitely depending upon allocation and constraints.
Best advice that I can give is to buy from a large volume dealer. This advice seems to be consistent on this forum. I ordered a 06 on Aug 15th with 2 constraints (Z51, and MAN6). Order was placed on Thurs. the 18th and accepted by GM, which doesn't mean much. Then on Tues the 23rd I received a TPW of Sept 19th. Bottom line. I got my car into production quickly because I am dealing with a high volume dealer that sells 300-350 corvettes per year. This whole thing is a huge learning process, I had never heard of constraints, Tpw's, or anything like this stuff. And you are absolutely correct. the dealers know much less than we do about whats going on. My dealer as of two days ago still did not know the 06 prices, but of course we have had this info for over a month. I am in the medical profession and it is amazing how much information that people get from the internet that we just don't have time to stay on top of. Of course alot of time that information is also bogus. Be patient, but consider a high volume dealer that has a reciprocating dealer near you that they can deliver to. I know that Les Stanford has dealers all over the country that they can deliver to. Good luck.
