I think I am going to get a power top. I have seen a lot of issues, and the design is very new. How hard would it be to take feature out of car or defeat it if out of warranty and not worth the upkeep. I had a c5 vert and the top was very easy but I like gadgets.
If you want my advice, save your money and a lot of potential grief.
The last few threads on power tops spoke of numerous treks to the dealer for the same power top issues. Unless you are an 85 year old senior citizen, or a paraplegic, do it yourself!

Been there with my black vert. You can defeat the mechanism in an emergency, but disabling the hydraulics is not a full time fix. I had mucho problems. I wish I'd have saved the 2K
I have 2 C6 powertop convertibles with total milage between the two of 8,000 miles. I lower the top everytime I am in the car, even if I am driving a mile or less. I have had no problem with the powertops and highly recommend them to anyone who is thinking convertible.
I never had a problem with my power top. I like not having to stop and get out of my car in traffic when I want the top up or down. I'm no longer driving an MG and at the level of the new vette today, A power top is what I expect should be in this car. Granted, there are some ways for improvement, maybe we'll see them in '07 and beyond (I can override the need for the emergency brake to be on to put up the top in slow-rolling traffic - like the Porsche)
I expect that most drivers will defend manual tops because that's what most drivers have. It's the very same with everything else on the vette. Coupes Vs. Verts; Z-51 Vs. Non Z-51s; Moded Vs. Stockers;C5 ZO6 Vs. C6 Z-51s and so-on, and so-on.
I think the power top is an exceptional feature of the C6 and would have gone for it had I not found the exact car I wanted sitting on a showroom floor lacking only the power top. After purchasing the car with the manual top, I am glad that I went manual. Besides being really easy to raise & lower, I get a little more trunk space when the top is up.
One more point, there is a long long list of problems that people have had with their C6's but I think it would be interesting to see how many have had none. I belong to the "none" group. Get what YOU like!
I do not think my question was very clear. If I get the power and want to get rid of it when the car gets older does it look easy to turn the car back to manual? Like cutting a cable or taking out a gear. Living in Kansas we have seen very few c6 verts. Just trying to look at worst case later on.

How do you override the need for the emergency brake in slow moving traffic?

I answered your question in this thread: You can defeat the mechanism in an emergency, but disabling the hydraulics is not a full time fix. I had mucho problems. I wish I'd have saved the 2K:
The hydraulics are on the passengers side, behind the seat, and against the body. You need to pull out a hard carpeted liner to get to it. I posted this experience in the FAQ section at the top of the c6 forum. Each time you manually open, or close the top you'll need to do this. It takes a while to perform the task. I've done it. To adapt the top, all the hydraulic cylinders would need to be removed, and a manual button would need to be installed in the hard boot. Not being mechanical, i'm not sure all this would be possible. The owners manual for the 05 says the hydraulics are under the hood. The book writers don't know where theire own parts are.
