Will radar drain battery?
Just purchased the Bel Pro RX65 and noticed when I turn the car off the radar power remains on. Is there enough amp drain from the radar to drain the battery? Have a 6sp and up till now have not joined the DBS and don't want to become a member as a result of the radar.
A quote I picked up at Carlisle from a non GM engineer. "The C6 is a electrical hog" I think you have been lucky with that radar finder on. Turn it off when you leave the car for more than a few minuits. Better yet wire it to a circut that switches off when the car is shut down
On my C5 i used to leave it on for a few days at a time, no problem, on the C6 NO WAY!
Heck do to DBS problems I remove my cell phone and garage door opener fron the car,its easy cheap and might help.

It's unrealistic to have ANY constant draw on ANY car battery and not expect, at some point, to find your battery dead.
As recommended earlier, make your power connection to a source that is "ON" only when the engine is running, or manually turn the detector on and off with the little push button on "smart cord". Since my memory is almost non-existent, I prefer the ignition-switched power source. You can mount the detector near the rearview mirror and power it from the mirror harness with a short adapter power cord from TeamSpeed...see this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...or&forum_id=74
BTW, I agree with your choice on the detector...very nice unit. If you want to mount your RX65 on the mirror, the Escort 8500 mount from Great Lakes Trophies will fit. The RX65 will NOT lock in place because the Escort mount doesn't have the rectanular holes for the locking mechanism, but the fit is very snug; I don't think it will come off during normal use.

The easy fix to this is to hardwire your detector into a switched source. This is easy to do and you never have to worry about battery drain when the vehicle is not in use, nor do you have to worry about forgetting to turn the detector on every time you start the car.
I have a V1 with a concealed display that is hardwired and discreetly mounted. I've had no problems with it at all.
Many guys wire into the fuse box...I found a switched source in the ignition loom under the dash. Made for a nice clean setup.

OK, the cell phone I can understand (assuming the cell phone's charger is plugged into one of the power jacks), but a garage door opener? Those run on their own batteries - there's no way they can affect the battery under the hood of the car. What's the point of removing it?

Good luck!
I think switched source may a bit confusing to most people. You need to find a circuit wire under the dash that is "hot" only when the ignition is in the "on" position or the car is running. These wires are pink under the dash, some are 10 gauge, some are 18, use the 18, radars don't draw alot of amps. Red is "hot" all the time. Use a test light to find one, again make sure its only hot when in run, and the light goes off when you turn off the car.

As no one seems to know what causes DBS, they are a couple theories around. One being that a OUTSIDE source of some kind wakes up the car when in a shutdown mode, or does not allow it to shut down.. Many of the affected cars are in a garage with a door opener. POSSIBLE this affects some cars, when controller is in the vehicle SOMETIMES. It’s a possible form of R.F.I.(radio frequency interference) so to be prudent I remove anything that could possibly affect it. It’s a proven fact that even fobs from other cars when activated ,or close show temporary influence of C6s (its small, but it shows up on test equipment) Just leaving the fob in the car is about a 2millvolt increase in the discharge rate.
I read anything that has to do with DBS, hoping to help find a cur, GM is not doing much!
