Default C6 have a reverse lockout while moving ?

Had my C6 for 4 days now..

I'm a little hesitant every time I put the car in 5th -- still not used to it and don't want to put it into reverse by accident. Is reverse locked out while the car is moving forward?

I do believe so...

While creeping forward on a number of occasions, I tried to put it in reverse in an attempt to maneuver my car out of a parking lot. However, it seemed there was something, maybe a solenoid, blocking the stick from moving into reverse until the car came to a halt.

It has a reverse lockout. It'll let you go into reverse at very low speed...I think like 3 mph or something.

Yes, it does have a lockout. When I first got mine, I got confused about the pattern and was trying to get it in 5th but really hitting the reverse slot. It wouldn't go in. Good thing too, I was going about 60.

GM P/N 46291, "RGD/BDS" (Reverse Gate Detent and Battery Drain Solenoid) - designed to shut out the reverse gate any time the computer registers a forward speed input from the speedometer transducer. Also serves ancillary function via a random number generator input latching the solinoid on to occasionally deep cycle the battery.

Hey, legit question: Has anyone with CAGS disabled had DBS?

Here's what the owner's manual says on page 2-27, just in case you haven't read it.

Your six-speed manual transmission has a feature that
allows you to safely shift into REVERSE (R) while
the vehicle is rolling at less than 3 mph (5 km/h). You
will be locked out if you try to shift into REVERSE (R)
while your vehicle is moving faster than 3 mph (5 km/h).

Back in '51 I got my Kaiser Fraiser into reverse by mistake on the highway at speed.
Didn't kill me or the car.
But they still can't correct my gap-teeth, caused by my **** sphincter trying to decelerate and slamming past my gums!

This is the most interest thought on DBS I have seen. Other threads have noted that DBS seems to happen more with MN6.

On the shifter transmission something like 'computer automated gear selection'. It's an EPA thing to improve gas mileage. The tranny will skip gears and go right from 1st to 4th, I think, if certain speed, temp, throttle opening and RPM's are just right.

My C6 is still on the truck bringing it to me, but I have already ordered a skip shift eliminator. I sure do not know, but the alleged random deep cycle battery discharge function might still work with 'CAG' eliminated. Hope to see more responses about this. I what to see a solution to the dead battery problem before it hits me the first time.

I do believe that the 'random deep cycle battery discharge' comment was satire......

Do an advanced search in the C6 forums, look for subject titles that include 'battery', and you will find lots of comments and data.

Thanks for the clarification on the bogus part number. Looking at all of the posting and the poll of dead battery information, it sure looks like a random problem. I have been pricing the Optima D34 yellow top battery and te PriorityStart device.
Would sure seem like the collective experience of all members of the forum would point to a problem.

Sorry to ALL for any confusion!

(Note to self -- seperate your funnin' from being serious more clearly)

1. Yeah I was teasing with the 'random discharge feature' and bogus P/N...

2. But I am wondering if the solenoid coming on when not supposed to could be involved, so the CAGs comment was to get feedback, which did come RIGHT AWAY - i.e. CAGs (eliminator) clearly not involved.

3. Back to your regular programming...

Yes I bit, but the joke may be that the darn solenoid could be at the heart of the problem. Older, but wiser.
