How many forum members have tried the Priority Start device reccomended by mikeyc6? It seems like a good idea when DBS keeps raising it's ugly head. Had my third DBS today and , as all of you know,it makes for a very frustrating situation. My battery was only showing 9.25 volts and was an upgraded Delco which the dealer provided last time. I also wonder if upgrading to the Optimum or Odysey batteries would help.
DBS is generally not a battery thing. Although most likely with a higher amp/hr rating you might be more apt to catch things before they totally die.
Do a forum search for the prioritystart module, as it seems to work. If it does its thing you have do the entrance routine through the back, and popping the lighter resets the system.
One dealer actually paid for it.
The other option is a 'battery tender', a charger.
Hey folks, this is really a sad post-Where the heck is GM on this issue!! Fuse 46, new battery, proper shutdown, RF interference, chimes when opening door, priority start, etc. In my hunble opinion, this is just RIDICULOUS. When will GM respond!!!!

They have in some respects, but not with a recall or an actual TSB that I know of. I brought mine in and my dealer called GM. They asked me a bunch of questions, and the only thing that was new to me, was to keep my 2nd fob well away from the car. I did that, but still had DBS after that. The latest is to make sure your steering wheel locks before exiting the car. I might not have been doing that before.
GM really doesn't have the answer yet, if there is one. And, there may be a multitude of reasons for DBS.
Hoonose;
A "Multitude of reasons"?? Wow, I really hope not! I would imagine its' a single issue. Thanks, & wish you the best
It may be a single issue like not locking the steering wheel.
It may be a combination of issues/events.
It may be a bad battery in one case, or forgetting reverse in another.
It may be a bad relay in one, or an aftermarket gizmo in another.
It may be such and such random RF signals being picked up by the system, keeping it awake and draining the battery.
I spoke with a tech at Lojack and he said that if Lojack is disconnected from the car battery for 72 hours + then the Lojack backup battery will need to be replaced. So, if Priority Start cuts off the car battery at just below 12 volts, and it gets left for 72 hours (like when you're away on a trip), won't that nuke the Lojack?

I have not had the DBS yet but if I do I will install the Priority Start. It is cheap insurance. Motorome's have used them for year's with good results.
Priority Start is a system that is easy to install and it cuts off the battery when the voltage of the battery is below 12V or so. This allows you to trip the battery back into the system by a sudden jolt to the system such as pushing in the cigarette lighter. It has a osecond ground connection that monitors for the event.
Just remember that if you need to use the system you must have the key with you AND your rear plate frame must be of the type that allows you to use the key. I have one of those classy covers that put the plate in a sealed environment and uses a tiny allen wrench to undo it. I do not recommend this type for the C6!!!
thanks for the info.I don't have that battery issue(yet anyway).car only has 206 miles on it and will be down for the winter very shortly.I truly hope this is not a car that has all kinds of gremlins!!!

I made the statement yesterday that with each of my DBS events the battery was completely dead. I based this on the fact that not even the hood light would even light the filament even a little. Later I was thinking that even the hood light is controled by the computer since last time I left the hood open changing the oil it shut off after about 20 minutes. I was waiting for my next DBS so I could measure the battery voltage. My question is, did you measure it with a voltmeter and when you opened the hood did you get a light at all or did it appear dead?
I installed the Priority Start a month ago. No dead battery since then.
Does this mean no events or that you had an event but Priority Start intervened to stop the discaharge? Can you even tell if it intervened since I understood that when you operate something on the car it resets? If Priority Start does intervene will you have to reset your window indexing and such like when you remove battery power?

I myself am having a little trouble with needing to buy aftermarket stuff so I can go out and drive my brand new $55K car. I hear more and more people talk about the lemon law. I think if GM doesn't get serious about solving this, we could all be upgrading to 2006's on their dime. I have got my dealer working on it and even though they had never heard of it until I told them about it, they are doing research to dig into it. I have my fingers crossed. Keep in mind that most larger dealers have only sold a hand full of these cars and only half or so of those have been 6 speeds. I would sure like to know the percentage of MN 6 owners that have had the problem. I think plenty of them have just assumed it was their fault and had the battery charged.
