I have an '05 Z51 C6 coupe with 7,500 miles and notice a distinctly different exhaust note than on other C6's I've driven. It seems to have more of a growl. I was recently in Vegas and rented a non-Z51 convertible and noticed that it sounded a bit more "muffled".....definitely seemed quieter than mine. Also, I can't tell for sure if it is coming from the engine or the exhaust. Given that all of the stock engines and exhaust systems are the same, can any of you think of a reason why mine would sound different than another stock vette. I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with it. Performance doesn't seem to be affected at all......still faster than hell. Thanks for any input you may have.
Think he meant to say you may have received BB Bullet exhaust from factory by accident
How different is the sound? I wouldnt worry about it unless it is noticeable by someone other then vette nutz like us... if the diff. is something very very subtle I dont think you would need to worry about it (Im sure the mufflers arent designed with the most exhausting tolerances in mind)
It's kind of hard to explain. The one I drove in Vegas just had a smoother sounding engine/exhaust. Of course, that was an A4 and mine is an MN6. I guess it is possible that the A4 shifts before it reaches the high revs when the sound really becomes noticeable. I assume that if it was related to some kind of engine problem, it would show up on the DIC?

It probably is because of the different transmissions and there might also be a difference between the convertible and coupe, the way sound passes through.

It could be the difference between the rental milage and your car. Mufflers tend to "mellow" with use at higher RPMs which may be the case with your car. I also think that you may be correct in that the A4 shift points probably are lower than you might use with the MN6 thus creating the difference in sound. Was the sound of the two cars the same at idle?

Since the "factory" only installs stock mufflers this would be impossible. Might be a Dealer add on but it would show in the pricing of the car: The price of the catbacks + the Dealer markup + inflated installation.
Rmears79; Did you buy the car new? If you got it used all bets are off, it could be any of the vendors catbacks or a homemade system.
