As often as this has come up, the reasons have not changed.....the only new factor is how much tighter and more precise the six speed is in the C6
then the C5....depends on your geography; urban driving, stop and go and
the automatic may be the choice......
This 6 speed auto is new for the Corvette so I don't know??
Normaly I would say go with the automatic but that is just because I have been driving a stick shift for the last 18 years and the Corvette Clutches have lots of issues. The automatic is definitely more smoother in transistion of power and easier on the drive train. But the manual will be much more fun in the turns and hills where on the auto you might find yourself braking alot or using your lower gears..which isn't as fun as driving the manual. I like them both but if you commute or have ailments, health issues like bad back or neck then I would go auto because it will be easier on your body less effort and less demanding on you. No doubt about it the manual is more fun but the auto demands less of you and your body. This Corvette has enough power to go around to get in either transmission. So it is a personal choice you will have to make and live with. I have both so I can appreciate both of them.
manual IMO. But why ask us, why not just get what you want?
Jeff, perhaps he really doesn't know what tranny he wants. My last three Vetts were autos and my 06 will be no different. The diehard manual lovers will tell you to go with the stick. I prefer the auto and enjoy the car blasting off the line with just the mash of the peddle. The manual has its advantages, you can control when it shifts and at what rpms. A very good driver should be able to get better launches with the manual, but the difference in my opinion is negligible. All in all I think the manual takes more effort and thought, especially in traffic. I think the Vette is the only car I am aware of that the auto is so close in performance to manual. I suggest a test drive of both!! Good luck!
i got an automatic coupe in oct. traded it for a 6 speed vert in april. i personally find the manuel much more responsive and fun to drive. i'd take the manuel any time
I traded a 6 spd manual vert for an A4 automatic coupe. I'm very happy with that decision. Both were daily drivers, and the auto coupe is much the better car for that.
The automatic will be a little different with the new paddle shift. Was going with the stick then changed my mind when the paddle shift was offered and believe I will have the best of both worlds.

Keep in mind that the trans is still an automatic...all the paddles do is provide an alternative to the shift lever...kinda like the Chrysler button shift in the '57 DeSoto.
