I just installed the race deck floor today after work. This is the last step in my new garage addition that was built earlier this summer. As you can see I am a Buckeye fan.
It was real easy to install. The tiles come in 2'x2' sheets. You just snap them down to single pieces and hammer them into any pattern you want. As long as you are not color blind and know how to use a hammer, you can do this.

The floor looks great, especially in the tradition of Woody Hayes! I was trying to decide on the epoxy or the race deck but after seeing this, I think I'm leaning towards the Race Deck. The only item keeping me from it is the price. The epoxy was about $58 but involves alot of preparation time. What was the approximate price you paid? I have about 368 sq ft to cover and my estimates are at about $1,600, ouch!!! Also, about how long was the installation?

Sorry for the long list of questions.
Keep up the great work,
Jonathan
368 Sq. ft. x $3.49 per sq. ft= $1284.32
Shipping should be about $100 so your total would be around $1384.32.
I paid $1134 for 300 sq. ft. which included $87 for shipping. It took me about 3.5 hours to install all the tiles. The cost may seem alot at first, but this product will last for many years. Epoxy will need to be reapplied as it will wear out over time; it would also take you much longer to prep and paint the floor.
The hard plastic tiles will last longer than any paint system. If you ever move, you can take it all apart and take it with you since there is no cement holding it down. The only prep work is sweeping the floor. Call the number at racedeck.com if you plan to order. They will give you a specific price for the shipping.
Thanks for prompt reply! You are absolutely correct concerning the epoxy paint option. It will need to be re-applied and the prep was taking forever. Getting a garage floor dust-free takes an act of God! Besides, with four children in the house, they rarely let me do 'Dad things' that are just for me.... I'll call Racedeck when I'm ready to order to get the correct border and such.
I agree with Nel727 however, the more I read this darn forum, my Corvette to-do list just keeps growing and growing.
I found garagewerks.com to have the best prices on Race Deck. Over 500 sq. ft. is $3.49 per foot, including shipping and over 1,000 sq. ft. is $3.29 per foot. Very easy to install. Love the product. I have posted these pics before so my apologies to the members who have already seen them.
I did mine last week. What a difference! With 2 rolling tool boxes, 4 Harleys and all kinds of other stuff worth stealing, I wasn't real excited about the epoxy option since the pro job takes about a week and the toys would have to sit outside. The Race Deck is easy and looks great and is done in less than a day. A rubber hammer and a table saw make the install easier. Racedeck.com has a floor designer program that makes design and material estimating easy. I just might have to do the family room next!
I bought my RaceDeck from overstock.com at $2.70 sq ft. and shipping was free. They only have black, silver or beige and you can get the end pieces at Sears.com. real cheap. I love the floor as it's easy to maintain and a snap to install.
My experience with Epoxy is that it's a pain to install, but, more importantly, it's unreliable. Tire marks show on it and it has a tendency to peel if you park hot tires on it. Just my experience.
I installed RaceDeck over my peeling Epoxy last week. I'm happy with it. Nice look and seems quite durable, but time will tell. No tire marks so far, though, and I had them the first day with Epoxy.
From my research, the epoxy coatings are a waste of time and money unless you have it done professionally (which brings the cost up on par with, or more than, RaceDeck).
What's the scoop on cleaning and moisture underneath? Can you just hose this off and let it dry? I like this a lot better than the epoxy option. The only other idea that I have seen that I would consider is the vinyl tile that some members have done. Thanks for all the insight for us "naked garage" guys.
