Sound's like the fuel card issue a lot of us have had. It might go away but it will come back. The dealer's know all about it. They will remove the left tank, in most cases and replace the card. Some will tell you the transmission need's to be removed but it doesn't. Mine took about 5 hours. Good luck.

Total Drag.................................... .....
I had to have my gas cap replaced. It indicated "check gas cap" on the dash. The cap didn't fit securely once the racheting started. New cap was replaced and things are fine!
At 800 miles, my check engine light came on, along with check fuel system light, with my gas gauge needle going to empty. Brought it in for service, GM had to replace the fuel card on the right side tank, the side that that sends the info to the fuel gage. At 2500 miles, check engine light came on again, brought it in for service, now my left fuel tank fuel card is bad and has to be replaced.
Bring it in for diagnostics, it may be somehting else entirely.
and you can drop a bottle of dry gas in it in case you got a batch of bad gas.It could be a million things, but it's more severe if the light is flashing.then you'd need to park it and get a tow.
I had the check engine light problem from the factory. The second dealer (the first thought I didn't know how to put on a gas cap - he had 3 tries to fix) finally found that the plastic line that links the 2 gas tanks had been broken at the factory during installation and thus was too short to seal. There was another similar one on this forum like that. Took about 2 weeks to find the problem, get parts and rebuild the car.
HOPE yours is something simple.
