Just bought an 04' Z06 last week with only 800mi.(I kept my modded 99' coupe) I got a steal on it so if I trade it for this...new 05' C6, 1SB, 6-sp. Polished wheels (no Z51). $45,000. I'll only lose $1,000. My Z and $8,000. I really liked the C6 and have C6 fever. DOES THE C6 RESPOND TO MODS WELL? How much will I have to spend to make it perform like the 04' Z?

Z51 c6's perform like a z right off the showroon floor, and you can take the roof off too!!i would go for it!Beat them up for the other grand,so you get what you paid!!

To convert the base susension C6 to a complete Z51 would be a massive undertaking, and cost many thousands of dollars. However, some have been happy just doing the sway bars for only a few hundred, I believe. You would be close to your Z's performance, but the new ride and upgrades with the C6 are quite nice. It's up to you to decide if it's worth that extra $8K. If you're happy with your current ride, it's a tough decision. I'd also consider looking for a lo-miles used '05 with Z51.
I think you might need to spend some money to get equivilent handling and performance especially if your new C6 is a non z-51 car.
motor-2K to 3K
suspension-2K to 3K
I would guess 4-6K might do it.
from what i hear a base c6 is in the 12's.i spent a ton to get in the 12's on my 95 and a little less on my 01 coupe, and the z06's are in the 12's off the bat, right?so,you don't "NEED"to spend anything to go as fast as a z.

Just traded my 02 C5 for a Z51 C6 and I can't believe the difference. The C6 is so much better in every way (except the exterior- I like the C5 better). The seats, the ride, handling, and oh the power! I had some light mods on the C5 and nothing (yet) on the C6 but the new one is much more powerful. I can't tell you what you ought to do but I love my C6.
Just get the c6.I was in your same situation, looking at o3 to o4 z06's and opted for the 6spd 05 with base suspension.I think you will regret it a little down the road.Power is really not much different at all.It becomes more of a driver issue.Neither car with equal drivers will get more than a car ahead. The new vette is just smoother in power delivery ,so it seems a little slower.Tuning the new cars can pick up alot of cheap hp.24rwph from my tune.
Hmmm. C6 Forum. Wonder what the responses will be, Hmmm. Let me guess "Stay with th 04 Z, you'll be much happier".
If he's happy with his Z, and he has a more performance mind than one for comfort and newness, why not keep the '04? After all it's $8K cheaper and that's important to him.
If he's unhappy with his current ride, well that's a reason to move.
If money were no object to him, well go for it.
Question is: 'Am I gunna get $8K+ more happiness' with the change?
I have a highly modded 99' coupe that I will never sell. I just miss the fact that the Z doesn't have the removeable roof. I drove 3 other C6s, all 6-speeds, 2 with Z51 and one with MSRC. But the car I fell in love with has the base suspension, go figure! The Silver with the red interior just looks aewsome and the car feels as fast as the Z. C6 fever has just hit me even though I've been avoiding it for months!
I think it is so funny when people say they need to do the following to get to this or that car specs.
Facts....
If you can't drive, you can't drive
Remember that video of the guy in the maxima that was schooling everyone on the track including vettes etc -- he could drive.
Or how bout the time I went to the track with my stock Z and ran 12.50's with a stock car and 2.2 60 ft times and there were people with 40 more rwhp on there Z's and couldn't break in to the 12's -- guess I must be John Force -- NOT
.......... buy what you want. Someone will always have a faster car, a bigger house or a hotter wife. Be happy and drive the damn thing whatever it is

but lets not forget, the Z51 is at least 1-2 tenths of a second faster than the F55 and handles soooooo much better. I will never understand it and I have driven both.
