I have been lucky, 5 trophies in 4 shows, but much of it is due to good prep. The windows are key, remember the window indexes and you need to clean it from the inside once the door is closed. Also avoid using anything on the weather strips that will leave resdue on the window once you close the door and the window rubs on the stripping. Under the seats must be clean along with the seat seams, under the mats, insides of the wheels, rotors and calipers. Tips: use compressed air to blow out the engine compartment and frame rails. Bring a set of rubber gloves to wipe the tires with tire shine and also wipe over the treads. I don't like spraying the wheels it leave a obvious mark on the asphalt or concrete and looks unprofessional. Just spray the rag (I use a cotton diaper and keep it in a zip loc bag) with the tire shine and wipe the thread and tire. My best trick is the use of a 3m sticky lint roller, it will replace a vacuum and even do a better job. It's also great for getting dust and lint off of anything, just rip a sheet off and use it any where. Look at the car from all angles and in all lights. Make the car look clean and not over done.

Clean the area where the door and front body panel meet. Clean all hinges. Engine area is the hardest since there are areas where you can't reach but the eyes can see the dust. I use a small paint brush to get the dust off. If you have an air compressor, that would be better. Make sure the exhaust pipes are sparkling. Clean the rims really good. The rear rims are easy to clean. I can get my whole arm in there to get all the dirt out. Inside the car, make sure there is no dust in the air vents; use a brush to clean the entire dash.

a good trick is to bring a fire extiguisher and first aid kit, if the judging is tight between you and someone else...you'll win

We take the Nova to a few shows and have done very well. A few things we do is spend hours cleaning, polishing detailing the entire car, inside door openings hood and trunk areas. We use pledge furniture spray under the hood, apply with a cloth do not spray. It leaves very light shine, a new car look. Clean glass is everything. The lint roller on carpet is a great idea. Make sure the pedals are clean and look good. Take everything out of rear hatch area. Fold seat belts across both seats do not fasten. Take a couple folding chairs, hats, cooler with plenty of water. Don't forget your California duster and a couple of 100% cotton cloths, you will need both during the day. If you have any pictures of before and after mods people can see what you have done to your car. We have a laminated description of the Nova, when and where it was produced where it was sold originally and pictures of the complete restro from start to finish. People like to see before and after. Good luck at the show you will have a great time. When the new 06 c-6 gets here we will take them both to shows both black/red interior.

Don't forget to clean inside the gas cap area; that omission cost me first place a few years ago. But 2nd was still nice. It's amazing how technical some judges can be, but I should have known better.

Use one of those small dust Swifters to get the air vents inside the car and also in the engine bay. It gets dust off in places that your hand will not fit. Don't forget to wipe the dust out of the rubber window channels. Also, we went to a show this past summer and first place was between me and a C5. It was so close that the judges rubbed their finger right inside the exhaust tips. I didn't think about it. I drive my car every day but the C5 doesn't. He won cause the inside of his tips were cleaner than mine. I now have a bottle brush that I use to wipe down inside the tips.

1) All the above plus:
2) Clean your car the day before.
3) Don't apply tire shine until the day of the show
4) Only apply tire shine to first groove in tire
5) Wet towel and put in sealer bag for windows of show day
6) Use dark towel to dry off glass, white leaves lint on cloth seal around side windows.
7) If you leave your windows down, put sign on door stating "DON'T TOUCH." You don't want anyone leaning on your rubber seal and scratching it.
8) "DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING OUT THAT YOU DON'T WANT STOLEN AND LOCK YOUR CONSOLE AND GLOVE BOX."

There, you've done everything to get your first trophy, GOOD LUCK!!!
