The owner's manual clearly states that both the coupe AND the vert have the rear deck lid auto pull-down feature:

PG 2-15: "When closing the lid on either the coupe or convertible, lower the rear compartment lid until the power pull down feature activates and the rear compartment lid will close the rest of the way and latch automatically."

That being said, I've had my C6 vert for 5 months, and it has NEVER worked.

Does anyone with a '05 vert have this feature operating correctly?

The C6 has indexing windows, no? The indexing works when closing the doors, no? Why no indexing to compensate the pressurization when closing the hatch?

I'm trying to figure out why everyone seems to be so resistant to using the supplied handle.

That is not the problem. The handle is used to pull down the lid from it's up park position. The pull down motor only works in the last 1/2 inch of closing movement. One either drops the lid from some intermediate height and no pull down motor is required or one sets the lid all the way down and give it a push wherafter the pull down motor can be heard doing its job. Doing the latter then requires you to wipe off your palm prints or take off your gloves. We are a fussy bunch remember!

I am baffled by this thread. Why all the trouble and confusion with closing the rear coupe hatch?

When I picked up my coupe, the salesman showed me how to close the rear hatch. Basically just lower it slowly all the way down to almost closed (where the lid is just about touching the latch), then simply give it a little shove downward until the automatic latch grabs that lid and sucks it down to fully closed. Works fine. Easy. Closes nice every time. Maybe others have faulty latch motors or a hatch or latch that is out of adjustment???

As for why Dave Hill added an auto latch feature on a purpose-built racing car (which initially makes no sense)... my guess is that in order to have a mechanical latch heavy duty enough to be safe at speeds of over 100 mph (where there could be tremendous cabin pressure), you would have had to slam the fragile hatch down quite hard to make such a heavy mechanical latch catch well. I'm sure they did not want the rear hatch lid and glass to have to endure a lot of repeated shock and flex with people slamming the heck out of it every day... so the solution was to add an auto latch where no hard slamming of the hatch lid is needed, and 100% safe positive heavy-duty latching occurs every time due to a positive latch motor. This makes good sense to me. In any case, it works fine, at least on my coupe.

I give the handle a brisk yank, so that the trunk lid strikes, and the pull down motor takes it from there. I've never had to push down on my trunk lid.
