Thanks for the replies Guys, I should have said how to switch off ignition/engine in an emergency situation such as the throttle stuck open while moving i.e. as you can in older vehicles with the ignition key which physically cuts the ignition circuit.
thanks again
Why would you want to kill the engine with the throttle wide open while moving? You'd lose all control of the car. IF that ever happened, and it sort of did to me once, just take it out of gear, get it stopped, then either pull the fuse, or just let the engine blow and have GM buy you a new one.
My situation arose when I had a heater core replaced by the dealer, and when they put it all back together, they forgot to re connect the cruise control disconnect. So I was on cruise on the highway, then exited, started slowing down, and the engine was fighting me, started downshifting and reving like mad. I popped it in neutral, pulled over and turned it off. Luckily for me, when I restarted it, the cruise was off, and the problem didn't repeat itself. Car went back to the dealer
C6 Does anyone know if you can switch off the engine if the push button fails?
Thanks Revtex
If the throttle sticks wide open...and the ignition switch button falls off...and the doors WILL NOT unlock...You will be in SERIOUS TROUBLE, because this car is trying to kill you!

That's exactly right which is why I asked the question .Now if I(we) had a real switch....as I did when it happened to me on a race car.
Thanks anyway guys

i believe the same possibilty exists with a real switch. Failures can and do occur with any type of equipment.
my plan for these types of emergency situations is:
put the car in neutral, let the engine rev all by itself - it will eventually hit the rev limiter and start dropping off.
use the hand brake to slow the car.
fully engage the brake once stopped, put the car in sixth and slip the clutch, which should kill the engine. if not, oh well at least i'm stopped.
pull the manual door release, step out and just watch the car run until it runs out of gas.
now, i'm wondering if onstar can turn off the car.

Dollarbill seems to have the brutal reply that I think you need in an immediate emergency situation(requires the least thinking about) my C6 is an auto but using the same technique would at least get it to a stalled convertor situation and hopefully stationary. When I get a chance I'll give it a try.Glad I've got the big front disks!
Thanks once again Folk.
