Default C6 Coupe Solid Top Availability

Hoping to join the C6 world from the land of Porsches . . .

I am looking at a remaining '05 Coupe in artic white with a glass top. Can the solid top be ordered from GM? If so, what is the cost?

Thanks.

Good choice. Check the archives on the solid top. Short answer is yes but a complicated order.

You can check in with one of forum vendors (GM dealer) Fred Beans...contact info is gculley@fredbeans.com or 610.495.1700

Solid tops sometimes show up in the "parts for sale" section as well, but a solid color top in the correct color limits your chances of finding what you are looking for, although you could go with white or even black.

The C6 is a great car, I would suggest the 1SB option package as well as a 6 speed, the Z51 or F55 suspension option would be a bonus (F55 would be my choice) but even the base suspension is Ok.

Good choice of color!
I have the opposite, I have the solid and want the glass (actually I want both). The glass top runs from $1200-1400 in the aftermarket new. The solid top would probably be the same range. Used they run $7-900 if you can find one. Then the solid top would have to be painted, another $1-200, unless you are lucky enough to find one in your color.

This is Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet,

We can get you the top at wholesale prices. They are not available as a pre assembled item, but we must get all of the pieces individually and then also have the top painted for you. If you are interested give us a call at 800-234-5284 or email us at parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com

You could also try Ebay or some of our forum auto recyclers, the last two links on the left side of this page under "used parts".

I wouldn't buy the solid top until they work out the quality problems. My first top separated from the frame, and was recently replaced under waranttee. The replacement is creaking and popping. It sounds like the whole body is coming apart.

Catbert- Tell me more as I have read about this issue. I have only driven 1 6spd car- late production on a warm day. Base suspension, solid top. No rattles, no pops. The car I drove impressed me enough to take a 2002 996 with all the good stuff back to the dealer and say no thanks- the Corvette was heads and shoulders above the Porsche in every way (not just price). I have always stayed away from Corvettes in the past because of exactly what you are describing.

I don't know what the manufacturing issue is at this point. They have made basically the same top since the C4 was introduced in 1983. The darn thing just sounds like it's cracking every tine the chassis is flexed on the diagonal. It's ruinining what is otherwise a good driving experience.

There was a batch of solid roofs that were not properly bonded to the frame. The issue has been corrected.

I am still waiting on mine. Last time I called the dealer/service, he told me that he has seen customers come back for the same issue even after replaced.
