Getting back to the original question...this might be too early to really know anything. After a few months of trouble free battery service, I'd be inclined to think GM figured out a fix. Another question which I haven't seen asked yet....is the battery in the 2006 the same model Delco that's being used in the 2005's?

I'm not sure if that matters. DBS has only affected those with a manual transmission, and not the automatic tranny. I'm sure they didn't install different batteries in autos vs manuals in '05.
One other strange thing between the 05 & 06 is the battery cables have been redone in essence they have rerouted and changed the way they are connected. Bottom line is there are no other changes under the hood except the battery connections
Right. My 2005 (Mn6) battery # is 9486. Anyone know how these two batteries differ? I know, I know... "it's not the battery." Maybe not, but (when I was a kid and made my living as a mechanic) I worked on tons of Lucas Electric plagued cars where we could never pin down an exact battery failure cause. But where we resolved many issues simply by installing a BETTER battery. (Which was tough when those freakin' cars were positive ground!). The key here may be "better". Again, how do the #8538 and the #9486 batteries differ?
