Default Question about ordering process...

Okay, once your car has been accepted by GM, how long does it take to actually build it. I just got an email from my dealership stating that the order had been accepted but that is basically all that he said. The waiting is driving me nuts!

If you order is accepted then the dealer has a "targeted production week" and should be able to tell you the week. Later in the process you will be able to get the day it will start production.

Congratulations, your on your way!

Here's the quote from the dealership: "construction will begin next week." What the heck does that mean?

Mine have been 6 weeks almost to the day. I am in CA so if you are closer to BG it could be sooner.

This is the sequence GM uses. Your dealer needs to provide more info. TPW is "targeted production week". ASK your dealer!!!!
1100-Order placed at dealer
1101-Order accepted by GM
2001-Order generated to dealer
2005-Order replaced with GM Prospec order 2050-Order changed
2500-Order sent to production, preferenced 3000-Order accepted by production control 3100-Order available to sequence (now the tpw becomes more stable)
3300-Order selected for production by assembly plant
3400-Order broadcasted for production
3800-Vehicle produced
4150-Vehicled invoiced to dealer
4200-Vehicle shipped
5000-Vehicle delivered to dealer
6000-Vehicle delivered to customer

Once you get to 2500 it is a done deal. Just a matter of a few weeks and you are tooling around.

I got a similar cryptic note from my dealer late this afternoon today, but with a twist, he advised the following:

"You’re ’06 Vette is on hold due to constraint on Z51 performance package. Need to know if you want to continue to wait for the Z51 package or delete package for build next week."

What do you guys make of it?

I asked him for TPW, order #, etc. etc.

This all happened late today, so it will probably be tomorrow before I get to the bottom of it.

My response:

"Yeah, I had heard something about this, and the reasons behind it being the CAFE/EPA, due to the ratios in the Z51 specific 6 speed.

I will think it over tonight and let you know tomorrow, but I am leaning towards keeping the Z51 with the quicker ratios, and waiting, but may consider F55 RTD in it's place.

How much longer do you think I'd have to wait for the Z51 based on what you are being told? Also, I may want to go to plant for the build (have a plant contact there via the internet), as well as the R8C pick-up itself a few weeks after the build this time, so please just keep me abreast of timing, order #, event codes, etc.

Also, please shoot me the current options on order for confirmation, as I think I made one change since we talked back in August...(added OnStar)(current configuration is attached)."

Sounds strange to me. I ordered the F55 option so I hopefully won't have any constraints. Good luck in getting what you want. I wonder if the constraints on the z51 package has effected the production of everything else?

Find a new dealer. Unless this guy is giving you the deal of the century they can do better. I am getting what I want everytime with or without allocation.

If you are set on the Z51 I would wait. If he is having a problem find another dealer.

That is the thing, you do not have to wait.

I've got no problem waiting. Heck, it's how I've bought my last 3 Vettes, with an average wait of 4 months apiece.

My dealership only gets 3 allocations a year, but cuts me a killer deal on them (2 C5's and now a C6). This kind of deal and relationship demands some loyalty. Trust me fellas.

Besides, winter is approaching here in KC anyhow. I will wait for the Z51. I anticipate about a month delay.

I ordered my Z51 from a Forum Dealer (Monica @ Maxie Chevrolet) on Tuesday. It went straight to 2500 on Tuesday which means it passed contraint and should go to 3000+ next Wednesday she tells me...

Sounds like a larger (Forum) Dealer may be the way to go...
