Do any of the vendors offer a mesh lower grill?

Nope, that's not mesh. Think ZO6 ( or even better,Bently woven wire)
I would go for that myself.

Home depot does. It cost me $2.50 and was enough to do 4 or 5 C6's. I'd post a pic, but I don't have one and it's too dark to take one right now.

Although I would not buy them, I kind of like the mesh grill and side vents. I guess I just like the stock look a little better.

I've spent some time on the site, and on the phone with them. These are a really high quality piece, available unpolished, polished or black powdercoat. I've been wanting just this kind of thing for a long time.
They cost $129 for the plain Stainless, add $35 for polished or black.
Mount using zip ties, and have rubber surround so they wont rattle or scratch.
They are sure worth a look!

3M doublesided tape (supplied) to position the wire mesh cloth and a 5-minute epoxy is strongly suggested so they wont shift or move over time. Each section is cut to the shape of the opening so there is no quess work in positioning the RaceMesh in each opening.
