Half quart overfill

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

My first oil change at a Bentley Chevy in Florence, AL was 1 quart over. (6-1/2 quarts). I took a weekend trip right after the change and put almost 1000 miles on it. Then took it back when I got back to town and they drained it out. No problems.
The owner's manual says an overfill can damage your engine, but it also says to use 1 extra quart for Autocrossing. ?
I wouldn't worry. I've had no problems.
The funny part was the service manager said the dipstick wasn't very accurate.
Who's the dipstick? I made them write a ticket when they drained the extra quart, just for records. By the way, I've been driving 100 miles to a much better dealer with much better service. Larry Clark Chevy in Aberdeen, MS. Worth the drive for me. Glad you're loving the car. With about 10.5k miles, I'm still loving every minute of it. competitive driving, the engine may use more
oil than it would with normal use. Low oil levels can
damage the engine. Be sure to check the oil level
often during racing or other competitive driving and
keep the level at or near 1 quart (1 L) above the
upper mark that shows the proper operating range
on the engine oil dipstick. For information on
how to add oil, see Engine Oil on page 5-14. After
the competitive driving, remove excess oil so
that the level on the dipstick is not above the upper
mark that shows the proper operating range.

Glad you love the car. same here!
Who's the dipstick? The best thing to do is put in the specified amount of oil, start it up, then let it drain down a half hour or so and check the level on the dipstick. If the dipstick is INCORRECT, I would take it back to the dealer for replacement. If the car is out of warranty, I would just mark the full level with a file and use that instead of the factory marks.

The manual does say 5.5 qts for standard cars, 6.0 qts for Z51 (because of the oil cooler). The question is, how much of that extra 1/2 qt in the Z51 cars will actually drain out during the oil change?
Different folks give different answers.

One question I wish Gene (Fred Beans) or Bob (Fitchner Chevrolet) would answer for us...Does the LS2 dipstick have the same part number for Z51 and non-Z51?
