I have been overall happy with the DVD navigation in my new 06 C6. However, having been used to GPS's in airplanes, I found this one to not be intuitive - it took a lot of study to be able to understand and use all its capabilites. Also, I am a little disappointed in the coverage - the detail streets is just around major metropolitan areas. My Garmin 396 with the street package covers the US completely in detail. Anyway, anyone know who makes the DVD Navigation unit and the accompanying DVD's?
Being a newbie and having my C6 for only 2 weeks, I am wondering how the updates are distributed. You say through the dealer and that seems to be what C5 owners are saying for getting V2. My sticker says 06's get two updates. Does that mean I need to hound the dealer as to when updates are available or will GM mail me a notice so I know when to pick one up? Also I don't understand the logic of having to pick them up at the dealer, why don't they just mail them? Probably too logical! And I have never heard of the vendor - is that GM company - I thought it would have been Garmin. Lowrance, or Pioneer. I appreciate you all helping the newbie.
Denso supplies the hardware that uses the TeleAtlas data base which was created by GDT who sold out to TeleAtlas. The updated disc offer should cover the latest information . TeleAtlas just issued a new update in October and another wont be available until Jan. or later.
However if the data you need is incorrect, ie: street names or road designations are wrong , this should be cover as a "defect in workmanship or material " and should be replaced in addition to the free updates. Unfortunatly, Denso and TeleAtlas dont see it that way. You might like to contact GM through a class action to get their attention.

What kind of airplane GPS are you using? My only experience has been with the system that Boeing puts in the B737,757,767,777. After 15 years I got pretty good with that system, but my initial feelings were described by another pilot in training:
"Now I know how my dog feels when he watches television"
