I did mine. As I recall, two screws hold it in place. I assume you have the CHMSL off the car and in hand, right?

The light housing itself is a sealed unit. Are you referring to removing it from the rear facia or removing the red lens from the housing itself?

exactly.....removing the lens from the housing....seems like it is sealed and doesn't come off......but if I buy an aftermarket color coded housing unit some look like they don't come with the lens.....

This is actually an easy job. I know that because I was able to do it. Believe me, I am not mechanically inclined...

1. remove the inner two tail lights, they unscrew and then hang down.
2. reach in and unscrew the 4 retaining bolts, two on each side, that hold the CHMSL in place.
3. unplug and remove the CHMSL from the rear fascia.
4. unscrew the two screws that hold the red lens in place
5. lift the red lens out...
6. repeat the steps in reverse with your body colored CHMSL housing, and viola.....

If I'm lyin', I'm dyin'....

I've got 6 new ones on my desk right now. They are sealed. You would have to dremmel slice them open, then rebond.
They must come with the lens. I'd call and ask

I did, but the ONLY 2 screws I see are under the lens holding the LED board in place.

I just did mine this afternoon. All went well. Remove the spoiler with the light intact. Then remove the light from the spoiler by removing the two center screws. The have threads on each end and serve to hold the light in place as well as allow attachment to the car with nuts. Move the light over into the new unit and install the screw studs to hold in in place and the two other screw studs to allow all four to be used to hold the spoiler on the car. It was like a ten minute job. Seriously.

Not to hijack this thread, but, does anyone else feel the separate third brake light design on the C6 sucks versus the intergrated design of the C5?
