Default Courtesy Delivery

For those who utilized a courtesy delivery, did any of you wait to pay until you actually had the car? I have a courtesy delivery scheduled and know the selling dealer would prefer to close the transaction prior to my actually receiving the car, but I have a problem with this. Once I've paid, I know I'll have no leverage if something goes wrong or the car is unsatisfactory. Moreover, I don't feel I should have to pay until I actually have my car. Any recommendations or advise from those who have already taken courtesy delivery?

I wouldn't pay until you've seen and inspected the car. Obviously, the delivering dealer won't release the car to you until the selling dealer authorizes it and they won't authorize release until they've received payment. In the end, holding payment until you inspect the car may add a few days to your wait but it'll be worth it in peace of mind.

I picked my Corvette up at the museum and you pay in full ahead of arriving or you don't get the car. I am sure that there have been a few cases of people backing out of a deal when they see the car but it is rare. You are so excited at the time and the dealer, even if it is a courtesy dealer will take care of any issue's you might have. Any Chevrolet dealer in the US is authorized to complete waranty work on any Corvette no matter where it is purchased. I wouldn't worry about it.

You have to pay up front and hope for the best.

Default pay me now drive it later

Internet dealers/courtesy delivery will want payment before an ordered car ships from BG. Our car was actually in town before the seller knew it. Big rush to get paid, then it is there now. The courtesy dealer took a week to process the paper. Our Cool Hand Luke time in the box to get our mind right for buying out of state. We visited the car but couldn't get in it, fobs equal power. And suspected if we got demanding, it would take more time not less. Both in town dealers had small allocations and big waiting lists. Plus over MSRP prices. Could have taken seller delivery but 1600 miles in the car was more of a road trip than we cared to take day one. Eventually worked out just fine. For all those posts that start of "I wouldn't ever....". Yes you will. Or not get the car.

We have just gone through this, we ordered from a forum dealer and had a courtsey delivery, in another state. I would not pay in advance, except for the deposit to order. What if there is shipping damage, sure it can be repaired but do you really want to start that way? My selling dealer let us have the car inspected before he asked for payment.

Definitely DON'T pay until after dealer prep and it's ready to be picked up!!

I didn't! The dealer is under no risk. And, you're right about the leverage. However, if the dealer INSISTS, you'll probably HAVE to .. because they are "kind of" doing you a favor. I paid 300. (At first they wanted 500.)

Pay just before leaving the dealer, after you have inspected yourself.

I worked at a chevy dealer for 10 years so here are a few hints the dealer that you pick the car up from only has to PDI it fill it up with gas and clean it for all that they get a flat mabey a few hundered bucks they do not have to think about cust service because their csi score is not at risk and they do not get any allication for just delivering the car to you they may do the title work for you some states make them some do not. The selling dealer will have to colect the money you could look the car over but more than likely you will not get to drive it you can try I would try a time of day that is real slow if there are no other customers mabey you can get someone who wants to go for a ride but you have to understand you are not there customer they have nothing to loose (if they are smart they will think about service work and if they are nice to you now mabey you will buy the next one form them) As for the money your selling dealer has 10 days to pay for the car before it goes on thier floorplan so they want the deal done fast those 10 days could start before the car hits the ground. long story short look it over but make sure you can get the funds fast to the selling dealer

Default I think if your selling dealer is

not the delivery dealer you're going to have to pay when the vehicle is produced, i.e. when the VIN is available because the selling dealer can't risk someone walking away from the deal at this point. I will pay the courtesy fee to the selling dealer who pays the courtesy dealer. At least that's how my selling dealer wants to work it. Even if you've paid for the car, you don't have to accept it if it's damaged or not preped properly. The courtesy dealer will not want a vehicle sitting around that he can't sell since it is already owned; they will have to make it right.
