WHAT is MP3??
I think I read that my 06 will play “MP3’s.” WONDERFUL!! But, what the heck is an MP3? Does it LOOK like a regular CD? Is it BETTER than a regular CD? Will it increase my gas mileage?
As you might guess, I’m not a music nut. (Just talk.) Although I love blue grass .. which, of course, everyone loves.
Yes, I'm sure it’s all in the manual .. someplace .. probably under “MP3’s for Dummies.” When (if) I master the MP3’s (what they are and how to install them) I’m going to try to figure out the MAPPING system. (Hopefully before the 07's come out.)
BUT, if I never figure any of it out, that radio/map display really looks nice.

The big controversy is that GM promised that the head unit would decode MP3 files but due to some screw up Denso could not get the firmware (computer instructions saved on a special computer chip in the head unit) to work correctly before the C6 was released. A year later those of us with Nav 1SBs can only play one regular CD - no changer no 100 songs avaliable at a time.
There is still no changer available and we all expected that the MP3 capability would allow us the ability to not change disks all of the time (no place to keep them either). Many of us are waiting for the new firmware that will update our units so that we will have what we were promised. BTW - the update will be done through a disk inserted into the DVD Nav slot (last I heard).
Hope this explains all of the issues!

I wish that was true. But basically you can put about 10 times the number of songs of a regular cd. Also the manual mentions that it takes CD-Rs, but I created one from CD-RW and it works well.
