Default Anyone Using Wheel Locks?

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...0&forum_id=103

Can'f find the thread now, but a while back one of our fellow C6 owners had his car left on blocks as well.

While wheel locks won't completely stop this type of thing, at least they offer some protection from the amateurs.

I bought a set of the round ones.

McGard Spinedrive, each has a head specific to a master key (socket). Add in another set of locks from them also, and its much easier to move onto the next car !

Yep, those are the ones I have. So you are saying go with two sets? 2 different locks on each wheel?

Its my understanding that "spinedrive" is simply a lug nut designed for newer wheels with deep and narrow holes, they are not locks. All spine drive nuts use the same socket to match the spine, they are not individually keyed. Your spine drive socket will fit your buddys.
What killerwheels is saying I think, is to add a set of locks to your spinedrive lugs.

If mine will fit my buddy's then all a potential thief would have to do is buy himself a "spinedrive" socket. Then any time he came across a car with the spinedrive nuts just have at it.

The splinedrive are unique (they are not round) and must be removed with the included chuck. So 4 lugs on each wheel are specific to the one chuck. I then added a set of their locks also. So in order to remove my lugs, you will need some time and two different chucks (sockets). I figure you cannot stop 'em, but slowing them down usually means they move onto another car. Got it in a set for around 85.00 shipped from Summit or Jegs.

And yes, the socket for the Splinedrive would match others, but they cannot be removed with a normal socket wrench alone, thus offering a little addtl protection from someone that does not have the specific "splinedrive" chuck. The locks are specific to each set of 4, thus the combination should not be repeated.

OK, I got you.

I just have the lock. I need to get the entire set of spline drive nuts and the key.

I replaced all the OEM lugs with McGard lugs from Pep Boys. They come in packs of four. I then installed one McGard key lock on each wheel. I opted to not use the Splinedrive lugs.

Default what size lug nuts is the C6?

.....in other words,,, I get 2 different sets of locks for each wheels? Cool!!! I'll order this Monday, too bad they are close on week-ends. I wonder if Pep boys carries both. What size is the C6?

Chrome - SplineDrive (Cone Seat)
Contains SplineDrive lug nuts, Installation Tool, Tuner wheel locks, key, chrome valve stems, & storage pouch 65557

kit I ordered in chrome, you can get anodized color tops as wanted, or black chrome, but I prefered the traditional look. Summit racing has them in stock, just use kit number in search box , and please remember that mine are on custom wheels, have not seen what they look like on factory wheels. (probably not noticable either).

the thing I worried about wheel locks is that they can still steal your wheels if they break your glass and get into the glove compartment and get the wheel lock keys.!

uhh... don't keep it in the glovebox???

Its a "deterrent"
It does not "prevent"
If they want 'em bad enough, they are going to have 'em.
Your hopefully stopping the amateurs not the pros.
The pros just call in the flat bed and load the whole thing up, alarm sounding away!

basically, but like I said, the spinedrive socket will fit everyones spinedrive, the thiefs would only need one socket to take off all spinedrives on all cars.
Locks on the other hand, have many different "keyed" sockets. Not sure how many different combos they have, but its vast. The thiefs would have to carry all the different keyed sockets, and find the right one quickly to get them off theoretically.
But what most of them do is carry big channel locks, or just hammer a big socket over yours till it "seats" and then they turn them out.

This guy did not, and even the trunk monkey did not help! This C6 was in a parking garage in Houston by the way.

Yep, the Trunk Monkey has been slacking lately. Seems as though his heart is not in it anymore.
