My new C6 A6, with less than a thousand miles, intermittently, at speeds between 25 and 50, seems to forget to shift, revs high then pops into gear with a bang. The Dealer couldn't reproduce it but as soon as I took the car back it did it with a vengeance. Anybody have a similar experience?

I had the same thing happen to mine once with about 650 miles in heavy traffic passing Memphis (it did not shift with a bang, though) while driving from the NCM to LA, I called a contact at GM Powertrain that I know and this person told me that it was the trans learning the car. Apparently the A6 has it's own computer in the pan and it learns the way it's driven. It's made this way because this trans will be installed in lots of trucks next year, starting with the large GM SUV's and GM doesn't want to install new computers to handle it, also there are no BIG external wiring harness except for three wires that go to the trans.

The A4 also senses how the car is being driven and adjusts shift points accordingly. Good to know this feature was carried over to the A6 as well.
Is it going into performance shift mode? It automatically does this when it detects you are doing high speed cornering and rapid accel. It will keep it in a lower gear at higher rpms so you have better get-up-and-go as you exit the corner. Sometimes this is annoying.
Thanks for the input. I played around with it this afternoon. In the sports mode and paddle shifting its fine but it still occurs in sports mode if I don't paddle shift. The *** (Alzheimer Shift Syndrome) only occurs after the car is warmed up. The effect does seem to be getting worse, however. I'll take it back in on Monday after I drive it around for a while.

From the get go, I've made it a point to drive in "S" with the TCS in "Comp" mode. Yes, the transmission learns real fast. The more spirited your driving, the better and faster it will shift. 1560 miles in two weeks.
