kerbeck's wants a grand or so.I put down 20 bucks when I wrote the deal w/the car sitting on the showroom floor.Usually,500-1000 bucks is standard practice, though,or you could just pay for it up front and be done w/it!
You need to determine where you will get your loan and how much they will require for a down payment on approximately "X' dollars borrowed. Don't go through the dealer. Use a Credit Union or any bank, etc.
Then the fun starts when you start haggling with the dealer. They will then ask for a deposit. Then you are off to the races.
or you could just pay for it up front and be done w/it!
That's the easiest way, but be very careful. If on final inspection at delivery you aren't completely satisfied you may be headed for a fight.
Or, if your car is delayed, you've locked up a bunch of money that may be tough to get back immediately.
the deposit is refundable but they want earnest money that your are serious and not putting deposits all over town. The prices for the car varies depends on the time of the year and the dealer and how good you are at doing your homework. You have to be able to walk that is the final card you have in negotiating. JUST SAY NO. There are deals here at 7000 under msrp few and far between some dealers are asking over MSRP for a regular c6. I was able to negotiate up from invoice on a 06 c6 vert with the z 51 option but had to wait from august till now( it is on its way finally will be here this week.) pm me and I will give you some dealer names. Be careful also the dealers like to quote you a great trade in price and then give little on the new car smoke and mirrors so keep those deals separate. Another favorite tactic is how much a month do you want to pay ignore that bs and concentrate on the final price. Actually the cheapest way to buy a car is in cash as there are no finance charges( yes I know about the time use of Money before someones chimes in)
Research financing on your own the dealers do not neccasarily have the best rates. Be careful of garbage add in fees. Despite my doing this for some time I got snagged on the GM advertising fees..... Also make sure you can afford the car it is not just the downpayment but the upkeep The tires on the vette do not last long and are over a thousand a set insurance for a yournger driver is going to be $$$.
