NAV MP3 Static FIX !!!!!!! Finally !
Johnb
Thanks

Johnb
I have an early VIN too and even though I have ordered the disc, I am wondering if it will actually upgrade my radio. I wonder where the break point between the various radios occurs. I also wonder how many different radio/nav units (part numbers) were used in 2005.
Questions Questions. We will see....

I know, the bulletin reads like the radio/nav is trashed if you lose power during the upgrade. It doesn't specifically say what happens if you don't have the radio/nav that can be upgraded. I will probably get the dealership to hook me up to their Tech2 to determine the part number before I begin.
The bulletin also reads like there are two discs, one for Nav upgrade and one for radio upgrade.
I am sure we will begin to see some reports on these boards soon.

It looks like there are at least 2 part numbers 15233090 and 10321830. Both only returned the same links. I also tried 15263014 from the ASI Resolution at the start of the thread, but the only link was to an eBay for the unit.
Mine is a Oct 2004 build Vin 102704. I'll see if I can stop in at my dealer and find out my PN tomorrow.
Models: 2005 Chevrolet Corvette with Navigational Radio
Condition
Some customers may comment on intermittent static on the FM band, poor and/or no radio reception when they turn on the radio.
Cause
A radio calibration may be the cause.
Correction
DO THIS:
Test the radio in its static condition by switching from FM to AM and back to FM. This should clear the static on the FM band.
DON’T DO THIS:
DO NOT attempt t make repairs at this time if switching from FM to AM and back FM clears the radio static. DO NOT replace part numbers: 15233090 or 10321830.
Test the radio if/when the static/poor reception condition occurs or explain to the customer to test the radio if/when the static condition occurs.
1. While the radio is experiencing static on FM, switch the radio from FM to AM and then back to FM.
• If the static does NOT clear when returned from AM to FM, refer to Radio Poor Reception (SI Document ID# 1556108).
• If the static clears when returned to FM, NO further repairs are available at this time.
2. Engineering is currently working on a calibration fix. NO repair attempts should be made at this time.
Dealer Action
• Record the customer information on a permanent record so you may contact the customer when a repair becomes available.
• Advise the customer that a repair is in test and validation and is due out soon. At the time the fix becomes available, it will be the dealer's responsibility to contact the customer.

It is pretty frustrating to "know more" than the guys who are supposed to be keeping up with this. I argued with the service writer who tried to tell me that I did not have the auto volume control on my Nav/radio. "You don't have that option"!!! I had to show the on-off screen to convince them!
To be clear my car is a 2005 C6 built 11/04; has the U3U NAVIGATION system.
The dealer ORDERED RADIO/NAV p/n 15233090 which I assume is the same p/n my car came with when built. Late last week I called the parts guy and he told me it was in and said the p/n SHIPPED was 15292581. Right then I new the replacement RADIO/NAV was capable of playing MP3 disks!!!!
So I come in for the install this morning and after about an hour the service guy tells me that they don't think replacing the RADIO/NAV will cure the STATIC / AVC problem I complained about.
OMG, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF...WHAT AM I GOING TO SAY NOW? I have tortured GM for a year trying to get a cure for this problem and now this! I told the service guy the static problems on the 2006 NAV radios had been cured; so he said he'd talk to the parts manager.
The service guy takes a call and in walks the tech working on my car...in his hand one of my MP3 disks I had put in the trunk. We started talking and he told me that my car already plays MP3's and showed me a printout of the VIN. I argued no it doesn't.
So we go back to look at the car. The idiot service tech said he borrowed a MP3 disk from a guy he works with and it was playing in my NAV system. So I scan the disk and it has 15 tracks! I told the tech no way this was MP3.
Luckily I had about 15 disks in the trunk and pulled them out. A 2006 sat right next to mine; the tech pops one of my disks into the 2006 and it played! I then popped the same disk in mine and it didn't play. I had proved my point and the tech said he would now replace the RADIO/NAV!!!!!!
Let's not forget that the 2005 isn't CAPABLE of playing MP3's! So you would think the tech would figure out my unit was functioning properly.
The tech showed me the printed VIN report listing specific detail about my car The RPO U3U was there and here is the EXACT description:
RADIO AM/FM STEREO, SEEK/SCAN, DVD, CD, CLOCK ETR, NAVIGATION, VOICE REC, MP3, RADIO, DVD, CD, CLK, NAV, VOICE RECOGNITION (U3U).
The tech wouldn't replace the radio/nav due to static or the AVC, but would replace it because I proved it WOULD NOT play Mp3's.
Kind of ironic, isn't it
So on the way home I pull out my stack of MP3 disks and find that only 2 of about 15 actually play, and not very well at that. A few titles came on screen but now I have a new problem: WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO MAKE MP3 disks?
I use EZ CD CREATPR 5 software and have made MP3 and Data discs. The only disks that would play were made by IMATION. None of the cheap OFFICE DEPOT disks will play.
The folder and file information seems to be part of the problem. When I made the disks I wasn't even thinking about folder/file sorting. Could the way ID TAGS are used be part of the problem?

My car was delivered 8/04, I also had the VIN run and print out of UEU and it just says "U3U-AM/FM CD WITH DVD NAVIGATION, BOSE PREMIUM 7 SPEAKER SYSTEM (REPLACES STD/OPT/PKG RADIO)", no mention of MP3. My radio part # is also 15233090, but the dealer seems to think that my unit should play MP3 since the cheaper option radio did, and the NAV unit is an upgrade. I'm seeing if I can do the same thing via replacement.
The tech plugged the car into a diagnostic computer and after he input the VIN a report printed out and included this statement...
RADIO AM/FM STEREO, SEEK/SCAN, DVD, CD, CLOCK ETR, NAVIGATION, VOICE REC, MP3, RADIO, DVD, CD, CLK, NAV, VOICE RECOGNITION (U3U).
Your window sticker that came with the car won't mention MP3, mine didn't either. What we have here is a tech who didn't realize MP3 wasn't standard on 2005 C6s. His ignorance cost GM a new Nav system.
<<edit>> The more I think about this, the more unsure I am. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I am not sure I am much help on this as I haven't seen the 6 disc changer. But it would seem that if the changer is actually a "player" ie it reads the disc then the capability would have to be there, if on the other hand, it is just feeding data to the head unit or just handling disc storage in some way.....I don't know...could the head unit actually use MP3 data as opposed to the data associated with a regular cd
