Lately i have been noticing a vibration when i drive. At about 45mph it starts, and does not go away. It seems to get a little faster with speed, untll it gets constant and you cant really tell it is happening any more.
It is a cyclic vibration (it's not constant, but it is repeating).
Anyone have any idea what it might be?
I have heard anything from an out of balance Cam shaft to a damaged half shaft.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!!!
(p.s. Car is goin to the shop tomorrow to have it checked out but i like to go in there with a little more information then, hey it's making noise fix it)

Most speed dependent vibrations are wheel/tire or driveline related. In the extremely unlikely case of an engine, or engine accessory, problem, the vibration would be RPM related rather than speed related. In other words, it would show up at different speeds depending on what gear you're in.

Ya, definatly not an RPM thing, becuse i cant feel it untill i get up to speed... I'm really curious to see what it turns out to be.. .Hopefully nothing to major.
If anyone has any other ideas, please feel free to chime in
My first guess would be tires...you didnt mention how long you have had car and/or how many miles on those... does it do this on all types of road surfaces or only a certain type (cement vs asphalt, etc.) Is the sound local to an area in vehicle or does it come from all places?
Stupid question I know but just to rule out the obvious: have ya checked the pressure on the tires?

Let us know what they find out....
Tires and car have about 1,300 miles on it. it does it on ever road i have driven on so far, freeways (I-5) and side roads... It's not really a sound, it's a vibration, i can here it a little, but i can feel it more than anything. can feel it on the floor and on the clutch pedal when i have my foot touching it...
maybe a tire is out of balance, never thought about that... hmm... intereseting...
You might just try to put the transmission in neutral when the vibration starts just for elimination perposes to see if it stops with the transmission in neutral, whether it be an Auto or 6 speed. Keep us posted if you try this on the way to the dealer's.
good luck

Still has the vibration even when in neutral (clutch in or out). It's at the shop now. Hope they find something (feels wrong saying that, but it's better then having to live with an annoying problem.)
I'll let you all know what they find... if anything... (loose nut behind the Wheel )
Car is staying overnight, they were able to reproduce the problem. They are going to be swaping wheels/tires to make sure its not that. But they think it is a wheel baring.
I'll let you know what they actually end up replacing.

Sounds like tires and wheels are out of balance... if it ws the motor, the vibration would go away if you put in the clutch or get worse with higher RPM... and frankly if that was the problem the engine would be making noise already.... and if it was that I would run it till it blew up, that way they would not repair it, they would replace it....

Josh, at least it seems you've eliminated trouble at least with the power train components; chances are it's something else which I would prefer if it was my car, eh? Again, good luck.

Well about time they started "baring" those noisy track every rutt run flats .... glad they were able to reproduce and you didnt get the "there aint notin wrong wut here yer car" - do let us know what they replace ...
Well after a few road tests and the use of some special listening device... they have replaced all the tires and wheels, and have concluded that it is nothing that they thought it was. So they have been on the phone with engineers from GM trying to get it figured out... so no clue what is wrong or how long it will take to fix.
I had a noisy rear wheel bearing, but no vibration. The dealer replaced the bearing.
I wish that was what mine was... I never get anythign simple to happen... But hey, at least they are working on it and are not giving me the run around. I am very happy about that.
