I am considering purchasing protection plan. However if car is considered new up until one year and 12000 miles, wouldn't it make sense to wait a while. Is the price affected by when you buy?In other words do i still get the same 60 months coverage if I buy when car is 11 months old, versus 1 month old?

yup!

Good until GMPP announces a price increase or your car hits 364 days old or has 11,999 mile on it.

I'm looking at an email dated 12-10-05 from Dennis at Fichtner Chev. Says "coverage must be purchased prior to the end of the new vehicle limited warranty of 36 months or 36,000 miles whichever comes first." This usder a section titled "When Can I purchase GMPP?"

Default How to purchase a GMPP

You call me at 406-628-4618, Ext 105 or email me at gmpp@fichtnerchevrolet.com and I will sell you one for a great discounted price. If you Email me or if you call me it is best if you have your VIN and current miles available for an accurate quote.

Thanks

You can wait that long, but it's the cheapest if you buy it within the first year of ownership. I purchased mine after 9 months in order to beat the October price increase. I paid $740 for the 5 year, 40k mi zero deductible plan.

I've purchased two GMPP from Dennis, and considering the rock-bottom cost and great service, it was very worthwhile. Supply him with details, and he'll help you choose the best plan.

I did the first one over the phone, but the second warranty purchase was done at Fichtner Chevrolet, in person. Sitting across the desk from Dennis for a half hour made sleep difficult for months afterward...

(I kid because I love...)

Hey CeYaBye I have one question. I normally use up my miles before the time so... If I want to buy a 60000 mile extended warranty and I currently have 10000 miles on my car. Will the new policy cover my car to 60000 or 70000 miles?

Default GMPP Answer

Your time starts at date of purchase of GMPP not In Service Date and your miles add to existing miles so in your example it would be good until 70,000.

Think I'll start looking around this spring. I'll be under the year and mileage limit.

GM Employee here and happen to manage the GMPP emrollment center. You are correct, the price will not change in the first year (must be under 12K miles AND 12 months) unless GM does a price increase, but we just had one October 1. Also the prices go up at 12K miles and aslo at 24K miles, so buying it in that first year saves you some money. And the coverage starts the day you purcase, so if your vette is 11 months old and you have 11K miles on it and you want a 48 month 60K miles, you would have coverage up until 71K miles or 48 months whichever comes first. And heck, GM will let you put 10% down and pay the rest in 15 monthly installments.

does this sound right? without extended warranty it is good up to 36 months / 36k miles....so in this example the extend warranty only adds additional 12 months / 35k miles....

If you car is 11 months old and you are adding 48 months to it, that means it is covered for a total of 59 months or 23 months more than the limited warranty which is 36 months. And it would be covered to 71K miles instead of 36K coverage or 35K more.

Now you can purchase the GMPP plan later in the life of your car (as long it is before the factory limited warranty expires) but the plan will cost more as the car is older.

I hate to bring this subject up again, but I am getting conflicting info from my dealer in Michigan. He said the extended warranty reverts back to the time of car purchase and miles. Unless the laws/rules are different in that state I am very very confused

If you buy a 60,000 mile warranty on a new vehicle, you have an ADDITIONAL 24,000 miles over the factory 36,000 mile warranty. If you bought a 60 month warranty, you have an additional 24 months.

The 60,000 miles and 60 months is the total warranty, for example.

This is the quote from the guy that sells the GMPP.The clock starts runnung from the time you buy the coverage. So,if you buy when the car is 11 months old,you have 40 months from that date.As opposed to buying from when the car is 1 month old and you add 40 months you get a total of 41 months coverage. My way you get a total of 40 + 11 = 51 months of coverage.

The dealer I purchased from wanted to sell me the extended warranty immediately and didn't want me to shop (apparently) so wouldn't give me the straight scoop. I suspect your dealer is doing the same.

I know I know. Why can't everyone agree.
I guess I will wait and get warranty later. And hope your correct.
Thanks again for all your inputs and originator of this thread.

Dennis thanks for explaining this. As a reward you will get my money for the GMPP for my 05-C6 in a few months.
