Motor Trend - C6 Powertrain - Variable Displacement?
In the new Motor Trend (September) there is an article about the 2004 Camaro. Here is the quote (pg 81):
"Expect the current powertrain relationship with the Corvette to continue, with the C6 passing along its Gen IV small-block pushrod V-8 evolved from the current Gen III LS1/LS6 V-8s, with such advances as an 8-6-4 variable-displacement cutoff system and drive-by-wire throttle."

Mercedes is doing this in their cars. The technology has caught up to this concept. They say that the Mercedes is seamless and you don't even realize it's taking place. It is a definite possibility :D

With the ill-fated V8-6-4, the main prob was in the 6cyl mode. The active cylinders did not fire evenly. The General knows better now and the new DOD engines are to be V8-4 (at least if you believe what is currently in print).

I know that they are working on the 8-6-4 concept for the big block truck engines... I haven't heard for sure about the small block though... The engineers tell me that the system is much better than the old electrical system the cadillac used... I guess this one is all run by hydraulics.

What would be the purpose of put in a 8-4 engine in such a low production car like the vet? Will the Cad only have this engine? You know the bean counters.
