Well, here's the update. After having lost a key fob, I order two replacement ones and tried to reprogram the car to accept the new ones while replacing the lost one. I was unsuccessful in using the instructions in the owner's manual on page 2-7. Pipedreams sent me instructions from the service manual that essentially said the same thing - no luck. The problem occurs after you turn the key 5 times in the trunk key slot within 5 seconds - a DIC message should appear but never does. I called my selling dealer in Kansas and he put his service tech on the line and we went through the procedures numerous times trying different things to get the DIC message to come on - still no luck. I went to a local Northern VA dealer today (Jim McKay in Fairfax) and talked to their service manager John Chickering - a Corvette owner himself. He tried it again with no luck. He then went to Method 4 in the service manual that uses a scan tool to do the reprogramming and it finally worked. John said he would turn in a trouble report about the instructions in the owners and service manual. But the bottom line is that owner's, apparently, cannot reprogram their fobs themselves. By the way, John did the repgramming at no charge!!
Well, the plot thickens this afternoon. After I returned home, I received my call from the factory from a very nice young lady wanting to know how I liked the car. After expressing my joy in driving the car, I told her about my one problem and she wrote feverously to turn in a report through her channels.
Hopefully, the reports will go in and the instructions will change to allow us to reprogram the key fobs.
Thanks to everyone in the forum who helped me track down this problem.
Good information. Thanks for passing it on. The manual is not wrong as often as some folks would have you believe, but it seems it probably was this time. Hope they update this info. for the next manual.
