Brake Squeal - Local Dealer NO HELP
Took the printout of the Service Bulletin from Monica over to my local Chevy dealer and they said they could do nothing for me!!! What a load. They said they couldn't find the bulletin in their GM computer, therefore couldn't replace the squealing pads for me. I even had the bulletin in my hand!
I emailed Monica, and will let you know the results when we figure this out.
Anyone else have a problem like this?

The document is not an actual technical service bulletin (TSB),it is a preliminary document (PI)...Tell the dealer to look up "preliminary info" not "technical service bulletins"...They will then find it

My dealer said the same thing. He told me they would look at it but it probably only needed to have the pads sanded. I told him that was a crock and the only known fix is the recommended pad replacement.
He looked at me and asked me if I was a member of the Forum. Needless to say he ordered the pads and installed them last week.
The power of the Forum is a great thing!!!!

I don't understand this obsession with squealing brake pads. Yes, the noise is annoying, but every high performance brake system I've ever owned has squealed. My BMW M Coupe squealed so loudly from the factory it would scare birds from the trees. When I replaced the pads with PBR Metalmasters to reduce brake dusting they didn't squeal as loudly, but they still squealed when hot. (And they ate the rotors too fast.) My C5 Z06 squealed when new, but does it less so with the Hawk ceramics I put in. My C6 Z51 doesn't squeal at all, yet. My '97 Cobra was silent with the factory PBR brakes, but when I stuck on AP Racing hardware they squealed, a lot. Every Porsche 996 I've been in squeals.
The noise can be mitigated with application of antiseize to some critical points on the pads and calipers, but my experience is that it isn't permanent.
Is silence really that golden? Or do you guys just miss the Lexus?

Update: Called a dealer in San Antonio and they were able to confirm the PI within about 1 minute and said the pads should be replaced for free.
Called back to the local shop and told them what we had found out, and would consider taking the car up there for the work. After he asked what the other dealer searched for some more in the computer, the local boys were able to "suddenly" find the PI...hmmm.
Well the parts are on order and next Wed I should have the new pads installed by the local guys and avoid 5 hrs of driving to and from San Antonio...let's hope that their ability to actually find something in their computer doesn't translate to their brake pad changing ability!
Thanks for eveyones help and support! Merry Christmas!!
