Holy Cow!
That's the first I've seen of that. A friend in my neighborhood who has a C5 Vert, told me to watch for cracks. I didn't believe him until now. I'm going to be checking the top out every day now ( being OC ).
Hope they will replace under warranty.

Have you looked under the rubber to see how the crack started? I see this a lot with Carbon Fiber bikes when there is an impact and there is a crack that grows under vibration and stress. That's scary if there was no impact and the glass just started to crack. I have one of these but have not noticed any imperfections. But then again, I haven't checked under the rubber.

cracked roof panel
YES..this happened to me...i ordered a transparent roof from Bob at Fitchner chevrolet and when it arrived i noticed what i thought was a small crack (about 1/4 inch) i drove from Sun City to San Diego (about 80 mi.) and kept a watch on it..in that short trip, it became 2 inches longer. i notifed Bob and he immediately sent a new one and took the old one back. i never dropped it , hit it or bumped it in any manner. it looked like an imperfection in the plastic to me.

[QUOTE=calemasters]1.) Roof has never been dropped
2.) Nothing under the rubber molding

From my experience (as someone else mentioned) this sort of thing can be caused by damage (dropping or other 'trauma' to the top) or damage or defect during the manufacturing/transportation process. It may or may not be a GM manufacture problem.

My 2001 C5 has something almost identical, except there are 3 cracks close to each other. Didn't notice it until almost 4 years/50k miles, and have no idea when or why it started. When first noticed, the cracks were about 1" long, in the last 18 months/15k miles they have grown another inch. Hopefully, you are still under warranty, I'm not.

They probably won't let you keep the cracked top after it gets replaced under warranty but if they do send me a PM. I would be interested in buying it at a cheap price.

Not following policy for warranty parts scrapping could be considered fraud by General Motors. GM is very strict on this. GM pays for the part, so they "own" the failed part. It's just the way it is.
