It appears that the owner of this site who writes about the equipment also sells some of the equipment being tested. If that is correct, then I'd have an issue with his bias tward products he sells... Just my .02

Or..........he found out through testing, (because he's not alone with the results) what are the good brands and he sells them. i have two Passport X50's and a Valentine 1 and all three work great. I also owned a bel rx65 and it worked great too, but because passport owns bel and the results are the same and the shape of the passport works better for me, I sold the Bel

The Guys of Lidar tested the new bluetooth K40 and its radar detection was about the same or a little better than a Whistler or Cobra and it couldn't jam a single laser gun used by police today. The information and a video of it not jamming any gun used to be on the Radarbusters site but K40 threatened to take action against Radarbusters and the Guys of Lidar so they had to take the information and video down.
The K40 was absent from the SML 2005 test and after seeing the test results in radar detection and laser jamming, I know why.
SML finally tested the unit again and gave it good ratings for radar detection but did you happen to notice that there are no laser jamming results? HMMM, I wonder why?
The K40 like every other remote radar detector will lose to the top 3 in radar detection because the antenna is low to the ground and that affects the radar detection range. In the latest testing, the V1 beat every remote radar detector by .3 to .4 miles in every radar band (X, K, Ka). Just get a Valentine One and don't look back!

Page 9 - Bel vs. Escort vs. Valentine
The Valentine does have the advantage of having dual antennas, allowing its directional arrows identify the direction that the radar is coming from. However, Radar Roy and other reviewers have all agreed, that the filtering on the Valentine 1 is inferior. So much so that in the November 2004 issue of Autoweek magazine's review, they called the Valentine 1 the "Chicken Little of radar detectors".
Having done some homework and owned several detectors over the years, the V1 has paid for itself several times over in the last several months. The reviews it gets are justified in my eyes.

even if you exclude the V1 because you're not willing to pay the extra $100 for the directional arrows, you would still be feeling sheepish if you did not then buy the escort 8500/bel rx65.
in any range test done by anyone, those two units are outstanding.
Maybe it's just me. I did get several tickets while using an Passport detector. Gave up on detectors. Have not used one for 7 years and have not had a ticket for 7 years. Maybe I was over confident with the detector. It sure let me down. It's not the cost of the ticket that hurts, it's what happens to the insurance bill.
