I know a lot of you think a trailer hitch on a Corvette is blasphemy. However, I'd like one to haul my motorcycle on a small trailer, a luggage trailer, or a bicycle carrier. Although not a forum vendor -- and I doubt any forum vendors have this yet, I was notified today that one is available soon from Hitch Web. Can a forum vendor offer this hitch at a better price?
If I'm looking at a used vette and it's been used to tow something, can I know what, how, how often, load on car, rear-end, motor, etc. Expected in a truck or SUV, not so in a vette where the purists will puke if you put a non-oem emblem on. As to the flotsam comment, anyone who disguises a car's history is flotsam IMHO...and if discovered would bring the veracity of any claims made for the vehicle into question, again, IMHO.
I find it interesting that the same two people jumped on this guy in this thread as well. You two are very helpful. I'm sure Gregg appreciates your input! NOT!

FYI, some folks install hitches so that they can trailer tires to the track. On the C5 the hitch is basically invisible back there when you take off the ball.

Fair enough and I apologize for not anticipating this.
I ordered one tonight -- looks like the same manufacturer from two vendors. It appears to fit up tight between the pipes similar to the C5 hitches. Maybe a modified C6 aftermarket cover plate will make a neat cover. Looks like you only have to drill one new hole in a non-critical area, and just enlarge a few others.
They EMailed me today also. Installation looks kind of involved, have to drill a 1 1/2" hole in the bumper beam to fish 2 bolts (that you have to drill the holes for) thru and have to enlarge 2 existing holes in the frame rails.
I've been looking for a hitch since March, have left contact info with every company I could find, this is the first response. One is a DALAN hitch for $246.05 and the other is a CURT hitch for $237.79. I've heard of Dalan before but not Curt, anybody have any experience with either company?
They have drill bit that fits in the center that isn't shown. The hole saw pilots on it.
You should use a big slow drill, a couple of hundred rpm max, to do it right. You could do it with a real good 3/8 inch variable speed drill and lot of patience, but it would tax the drill and you.
If you only want the hole saw to cut the one hole, you don't need the big $$$ carbide tipped jobbies. A High Speed Steel, or Bi-Metal one would last more than long enough as long as you don't run it too fast. Use some oil when you cut the hole, any oil will work although cutting oil would be better.
You could find a good enough hole saw at a Home Depot in the US, I don't know about Germany.
Open the pdf for the Dalan hitch -- it's the Curt hitch with a different part number.
Previous experience with hitch companies tells me that the companies use a generic exploded view for their installation instructions. What you get might not be what you see in the picture. Seems the companies are cheap and beg, borrow, copy or steal each others instuctions and illustrations.
Whoever gets one of these first please keep us posted on the quality and ease of install
