Wow, answered in 3 minutes, that was quick. I was pretty sure that was the correct answer but I saw a picture of a 78 and the checkered flag was on the left. It must have been a negative photo depicting an inverted image.

Actually in 1953 the flags were originally supposed to be the checkerd flag and the American flag. At the last minute, someone from Corperate found out you cannot use the American flag on a commercial item. So since Louis Chevrolet was French (native born I think) they went with the "fleur de lis", (flower of the Lily) which I think is part of the National emblem of the French Royal Court.
Kind of cool ehh?
Wonder what the reason was for the switch? I have read a bunch of trivia stuff on the vette and this never seems to be mentioned.
To me, its kinda of a big change to switch from one side to the other. I'm sure there must be some reason behind it.
