This is an update on the ASSUMED crank pulley problem with the 2006 vert that arrived at the dealer with a problem that caused the belt to fray immediately. Another forum member contacted the dealer and found out the problem was with the idler pulley and not the crank pulley as I had assumed. However the factory has been notified about the problem and asked to review the install process for the idler pulley. Hopefully the crank pulley problem is behind us for 2006 and beyond. I appoligize for assuming the problem was something else.
I would hope and expect the idler pulley to be easier to repair than reinstalling a crank pulley / balancer (which requires fairly major disassembly of the front of the car). I think I'd rather have a loose or failed idler pulley than a thrown harmonic balancer.

...............loose crank pully bolt, idler pully malfunction..........don't care.............these are stupid problems that should not happen to any car, much less one that costs $50k............
My crank bolt issue (2005 A4 Coupe, built 11/04) happened at 2,000 miles.....unscrewed itself completely from the crankshaft...........
