Default Push button start question

I know there is a button to start and a button to stop then engine. I also know that the stop button if pressed twice will turn on the accessories.

My question is when does the ignition HOT turn on? Is it when the key fob is near the car or when the start button is pressed? Is there a short time delay from when the button is pressed and the car begins to crank over?

thanks

Acc mode is push on. The HOT or ignition on is accomplished by holding the acc (bottom of start button) in for 10 seconds. This seems to defeat the auto shutdown in 20 minutes.

Hope this answers the question.

Thanks, Jim
When you get in the car what do you do to start? Just push the start button?

When does the fuel pump turn on? When you get in the car or when you push the start button?

When you push the start button is there a short delay before the engine cranks?

I know its a lot of questions, just trying to figure out how the system works.

Don't try to figure it out. Just get in with fob in pocket, press button, and drive away.

when you press the start button, the car turns on pretty fast. Sometimes i find that there is a one second delay though.

get in, press clutch(manual) or brake(automatic) then hit start button. fuel pump along with the engine, starts when you hit the start button.

I was wondering the same because when i go out to start mine cold sometimes it cranks for 2-3 seconds befor it fires up. Seems like it doesn't have gas. I was thinking if it turned on the ignition for a couple secs to allow the fuel pump to pump up to pressure it may elliminate this. Once i start it up once it fires right up at the push of the button. I am wondering if this is normal?

There is no way to do that, in real world, you push the button (actually, just tap it, you don't have to hold it) and the car starts...

Maybe this is one of those things you don't question too much! (-:

When in doubt, the manual is helpful. In my MN6, I keep the fob in my pocket, sit down, depress the clutch, put it in neutral and press the top part of the rocker with the green target on it. Engine turns over instantly, car boots itself up, I give it 30-60 seconds to circulate oil, etc and drive away. Shut down with MN6 is put car in reverse, apply parking brake, center steering wheel, push lower left side of the start/stop/acc button, check steering wheel lock on, and exit car.

As you'll note, very limited checklist.

One good thing about it cranking for a couple of seconds is it allows oil press. to build up a bit.

Thanks, guys. I am designing a push to start and stop control system for my 1970 and this helps a lot.

I have noticed that there is occassionally a brief delay between pressing the start button and the engine beginning to crank, but other times it is instantaneous. If I recall correctly, the manual says to hold the start button in until the engine begins to crank, but I have let go before it starts cranking and it cranked and started anyway. To answer to your question, I suspect that the ignition does not go hot until the start button is pressed.

Get in car, push in clutch..I have a mn6...push button. I do not hold the button after pushing button, I am usually reaching for my seatbelt as the car actually turns over and fires.. Pretty cool for passengers who haven't seen it before, so yes, there is a slight delay.
Oh and FOB must be somewhere nearby. I keep mine in my pocket.

I am assuming that you are researching the car...or don't have one yet. You will find a lot of help and knowledgeable folks on this board.

Good luck.

Harry

You only have to put it in reverse on '05 cars, not '06 cars.

And mine starts instantly upon pressing the button.
