So what do you guyz think of the new Corvette Stingray there suppose to be coming out with? I like the idea but i just think they shouldnt put the Stingray name on a v6 powered car. If it were to be a v-8 it would be great. Sorry i cant post pics of the car, i dont know how.

It will be called a Stingray but not a Corvette Stingray. I have an old REAL Sting Ray, a 1965, and I feel using that name on a 6 cylinder Solstice like car is a foolish thing to do. It's nice to see GM trying to come up with some intersting cars but using the Stingray name for this is not the right thing to do in my opinion.

I'm with you. I also had a 65 vert. Loved that car. What is it with marketing people? The Kappa Platform is a winner, but they should keep off Corvette Heritage. GM, are you listening? Doubt it!

I agree they should not use the name, but I don't think it will mean the same as it did back in the C2 days. Just like the new GTO, sure it's ok, but not anything close to the real goats.
The name Stingray is being used to generate a positive reaction to a classic name on a new car. The only problem is, the people that get the positive reaction from the name are Corvette guys. Most if not all of us wouldn't look to that car for the name. Now if they made a Corvette Stingray again. Wait they already sell all the Vettes they can make.
I did hear they are looking at a 3.9 or 3.6 V6 for the base engine and a V8 option though. The V8 would bring the interest level up in that car.
The GTO comment is pretty close to dead on. I owned an 05', and where the old car was rough and tumble this car is polished and refined. The new car corners well and the old car was straight line only. The only similarity is the old car was built off a mid-size sedan platform and so is this GTO. What GM should have done with the GTO was bring the full Holden line-up over. They have a vehicle called the UTE that looks like a cross between an El-Camino and a SSR. The Commodore sedan would have given GM a solid 4dr rear wheel drive large mid sized sedan. They could have marketed the whole line-up as a BMW and Mercedes fighter, that is the market they sell against in Europe. The problem is the UAW won't allow GM to do that.
I sure hope they don't use the name on anything except a true Corvette. But knowing GM, they probably will.
Likely the worst case of GM whoring up their names is what they did with the Bonneville and LeMans names. What had been a LeMans suddenly became a Bonneville. That freed up the LeMans name for a very low priced (and CHEAP) Korean car. Now those two names are basically worthless. Oh, and the Bonneville became the Perisianne!
Using the StingRay monicker on another brand just dilutes things - there are enough new "catchy" words out there to appeal to buyers rather than slapping an old one on a new model (much less different brand).
I was only 11 when I saw my 1st one, but got a laugh out of the name "Blue Flame Special". The term was already in use to describe Mexican food that was heavy on frijoles.
