Has anyone had a problems with the check engine lite after installing the mod?
No. No problems at all. It is a very quick, easy, safe mod. And if you get one of the kits for $20, it is easy to remove IF by chance you ever do have any trouble... just jack up the car and unplug.
I installed my CAGS eliminator the second day I had my car, all has been perfect. The CAGS light on the dash still comes on when you try to make a light load 1 to 2 shift, but the CAGS itself does not function. Check engine light has never come on.
No check engine light on either, had mine on for over 3k miles now. Shift light still comes on but I can go straight into 2nd. BTW, got mine from ZIP right here in the forum.
I was pulling out of my street, and I had just been "CAG'd" to 4th. Some guy was tear assing aroung the corner and I needed to GO, but was already in 4th and it was close. If I had been in 2nd, I'd have been able to easily get out of his way.
I agree. The worst was when going slowly from a light around a corner in traffic. Then, I'd get thrown into 4th and be lugging as I tried to pass someone up a hill. Sucked!
Thanks for all the responses. I will get one installed. I have had a couple of times had to go into 4th going around a corner in traffic. Would have been good to be in 2nd.
Wow you have to jack up the car to install this?...
Well if you're me, yes you HAVE to jack it up....but if you're a size 28 or less, you can probably just get away with parking one side of the car on a curb and crawl under.
Is pushing the gas down to eliminate the 1-4 shift to much of an effort??
Because I bought a manual and I don't want or need any more computer interference than is necessary, and I work on an USAF installation with a highly restrictive and enforced speed limit. With my modded Z if I didn't have the CAGS my exhaust note alone would get me in trouble.
While I like the CAGS to help GM avoid the gas guzzler tax I have diasbled it on every vette I've owned since 1988.
