Default Which wheels to order?

My order hasn't been accepted by the factory yet. I'm wondering if I should try to change the wheels I ordered. I ordered it with base wheels because my first choice, chrome aluminum (qx3) is not available until later this year and my second choice, polished aluminum(qg7) may be constrained because of the supplier's bankruptcy. A few days ago I saw a post stating that GM was finding polished aluminum wheels and was building vettes with them. My plan was to buy some chrome aftermarket wheels but I've heard it can be a SOB mounting factory tires on aftermarket wheels. I live in a rural area, without many choices for having them mounted. Should I try to change my order to polished aluminum or go with aftermarket chrome? I'm confused, help!

Order the painted, they cost you nothing. Order your chromies from WCC (Forum vendor) and you're done. That's all the help you need, now go out and do it!!!

Painted? Are you referring to the gray metalic? Do they not cost extra on '06's?? They were an extra cost on my '05. Not much, $100+ ??? It would still be a good choice. I prefer the gray metalic on my DSOM.

go with the polished aluminum, almost as good as the stock chrome. you will save a couple thousand if you do it, unless you get ****ty aftermarket rims with bad tires.

Why do you guys come on here and spread bad poop, huh??? You don't even know what you're talking about and who's talking about tires?

FW7578, the stock polished still look like crap and they cost way too much. I mean by painted are the stock ones that come with all the cars.

Go with the chrome from WCC or some other forum vendor and you won't be disappointed. I know and so does a boatload of other guys. Don't listen to the above!

all you need to do is find a "tire" shop that has the PROPER machine to remove runflats and the switch is easy. Go with the no cost tires and get the aftermarket chrome ones......

good luck and congrats on the new ride

Going though the wheel thing right now, saved the money on the factory optional wheels, they aren't that great anyway and bought a set of HRE 540'S. GM should be ashamed of themselves for their wheel choices as well as the fact they offer optional 10 spoke wheels in their calalog they can't deliver. The chrome aftermarket are a great reasonable alternative.

Switch polished aluminum wheels from the factory. You can get them now.

I thought about this very subject when I ordered and decided to go with the standard wheels and then do the exchange with WCC. It is considerably less than the factory option, about $1200.00 less than the factory chrome-that is if you could actually get them-and about $600.00 less than the polished which a lot of folks aren't happy with anyway!

Personally I've seen three sets of polished wheels up close and they were just fine....I think the polished wheels are a good way to go..$1295 for the upgrade is a ripoff....as is $1600 for a mediocre nav system upgrade...any factory option is going to be inflated in price. The painted flags on the polished wheels are a nice touch they look good on any color, although if I owned a silver vette I'd get the regular painted for the monotone look. The painted wheels look good on almost all the colors and the comp grey wheels look pretty good on cars in bright colors by providing some contrast...White and VR come to mind, and look downright awful on most of the other colors. Sorry you people with comp grey wheels and blue vettes....wrong wrong wrong!!! After market chrome or chrome in general is just too bling bling....if you've got an old 70's caddie rolling dubs...by all means go chrome..and chrome the fenders and grill while your at it.....otherwise in my opinion avoid it like the plague. It's just too glitzy....there is another word for it but I'd get thrown off the forum if I used it. Each to their own though but you were asking for opinions..that's mine!

Cliff Notes:Get the polished wheels.

C5 polished wheels are close to chrome. C6 polished wheels aren't. There are numerous posts attesting to this. If the duller finish is acceptable, I'd go with factory polished aluminum, otherwise aftermarket or chroming is the only route.

I think those are called competition gray? (Not the painted, which you don't have to pay extra for.) These look nice with the orange!

One option is to buy get the standard wheels and buy some polished aluminum takeoffs. You can get them in like new condition for $500 to $700.

Then you can sell you like new base level painted wheels for $300 to $400.

I bought a set of polished take-offs and will strip the clear coat and polish them properly, then sell my base wheels. I should end up with properly polished wheels for about $300 net instead of GM's poorly polished wheels for $1295.

I'm pretty conservative, but the silver painted wheels on my silver Vette was about as exciting as drinking Metamucil...Should I paint my exhaust tips silver too? Come on dude...The two attributes of the car that I get by far the most compliments on are the chrome wheels (WCC chrome exchange) and the exhaust (Bullets). And if you don't mind, I'll pass on the chrome fenders(?) and grill. Loosen up and live a little big dog...You might like it.

I'm getting my C6 with standard painted wheels (it's being built next week). And I'm buying chrome wheels from House of Wheels (a forum vendor) & having them shipped directly to my dealer, who will install the chrome wheels as part of the dealer prep. That eliminates most of the hassle and makes sure the chromes are installed right.

Why not just send the base wheels in for a chrome exchange? $600 - done.

If you can get polished, that's the way to go. They look great and will for a long time with little maintenance. Chrome won't. Lot of work to maintain and in time the chrome will begin to lift. Not good.
