Default Retrofitting Nav unit

Has anyone retrofitted the GM Nav unit into non-Nav cars? Was it a DIY or did the dealer perform the work? Are the electrical hook-up's there and waiting? Does the unit play DVD's also?

You are better with the aftermarket, from what I read almost nothing will fit wiring wise and you will need to install a GPS antenna anyway. Go to the audio forum link your answers are there

This has been asked before and seems to come up every couple of months.

The answer is that it cannot be done. Do a search on this topic and you will find this to be the answer given by one of the forum dealers. You will have to go aftermarket.

It can be done but the problem is that the costs of doing it far outweigh the end result. Because of this it is significantly less expensive to get an aftermarket nav.

Every morning on the way to work. The car just seems to want to go somewhere else.

Ha, my car NEVER wants to go to work either! Getting lost is half the fun. There's always OnStar. Thanks for the input. I've talked to a couple of high end dealers and they're telling me to wait until April and most of the manufacturers will have their new stuff out. Clairon will have a 7" screen (6.5 for everyone else), DVD, CD, Xm or Serris, ipod and bluetooth compatable, with or without the nav feature. W/o the nav, the price will be in the $1100 range. Pioneer, Alpine both have comparable units coming in the Spring, also. Thanks, again.

Back in the olden days, when I was unfortunate enough to have to go to work every morning, I had motorcycle with that problem.

You can do it, but there are some things you need to know. The harness is different, you'll need to make one. Also, if you have a used Nav, it must be returned to the factory to have the anti-theft code reset before it'll work in a different car. No problem dropping in a new Nav. Nav will not play DVDs other than the map DVD.
