Default Got Locked Out

It happened last night pulling into my driveway. I always put the FOB in the center console. I got out of the car and walked a few steps toward my front door. Then suddenly I realized I forgot my FOB. But a second later it was too late. My C6 locked me out! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!! Where did I go wrong? The few times that I have left the FOB in the car I would get a few honks of the horn reminding me that the FOB is still in the car. This time nothing. Was it because it was in the console? The console is still within striking distance to the start button. I can't figure this one out.

Where you went wrong was ever taking the fob out of your left pants pocket.

The car's sense antennas are in the B pillars, ie right behind the driver's and passenger's door jams. If the fob isn't close to these antennas (less than 2 feet), it may not respond to a challenge from the car. That's why the car may not start, or may allow you to lock yourself out, if the fob is in your right pocket, the center console, or the rear of the car.

I have left the FOB in the drinkholder about 5 times so far, and the car gives 3 honks to let me know what a dumazz i am. It's never locked me out.

I usually leave mine in the ash tray when I get in. The car starts just fine and if I forget it there and get out and close the door, the car beeps 3x to remind me of my error. Haven't gotten locked out yet since April. Just FYI.

I started driving in 1963, I always put the key in the switch to start.
Now I ALWAYS put the fob/key in my pocket. No way to forget it that way.

excellent post -- thank you.
the other night when I was out, with the key in my right pants pocket I kept getting a "no fobs detected" message, and couldn't figure out why. I'll start putting the fob in my left pocket from now on.

It doesn't matter which pocket it is in. I keep mine in my right pocket and have never had a problem.

Mine's always in my pocket. If you do otherwise, suggest you keep the spare in the house for easy access, assuming at home is the only place you do this!

Yes, but if you put the FOB in the console and close the lid, the car thinks the FOB has "left the building"...then, if you then get out without the FOB, you are S-C-R-E-W-E-D !

Be careful about wearing heavy pants; pretty weak signal from that FOB. Mine doesn't see the FOB much past the driver's seat...center console (on top) is about it.

If you don't need the Fob in your hand to unlock the door and you don't need in your hand to start the car then why would it leave your person at all? Just sick it in a pocket and forget about it. I think thats what GM had in mind.

I left my Fob in the car several times (Front seat) as a test. I have it set for passive locking.

Each time the car honked 3 times. After eight seconds the car was still unlocked. Left if for 5 mins 2nd time, still unlocked.

Took it out and put in the trunk (vert) - got locked out.

I keep a spare key in my wallet, plus the Onstar number handy, just in case.

My best recollection of posts where men had a problem with their fob usually involved putting the fob somewhere other than in their pants pocket.

If it happened at home, that should be the least painful place. You do have a fob #2 there don't you?

I guess I don't need to ask if you have OnStar.
